Update KDE from 3.1.1 to 3.1.3 ( fix for Konqueror problem )
Hi, I searched under all patches for SuSE 8.2 after a fix for this problem: " KDE Security Advisory: Konqueror Referer Leaking Website Authentication Credentials Original Release Date: 2003-07-29 " http://www.kde.org/info/security/advisory-20030729-1.txt I haven't found anything. Im running KDE 3.1.1 and Im thinking to upgrade my KDE to 3.1.3 - Any tips or help how to do it and from where ? I tried to create a new install source via Yast from: ftp.gwdg.de as: /pub/linux/suse/ftp.suse.com/suse/i386/supplementary/KDE/update_for_8.2/yast-source I enabled the source install to On and make it the only one available and tried to click to Install and Remove Software under Yast but nothing was detected to be upgraded. Any ideas how can I update via Yast to KDE 3.1.3 ? rgds, Stefan
Hi all, After playing around with Yast2 and Yast I installed the new KDE 3.1.3 using this procedure: Step 1) Download all rpms from: ftp://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/linux/suse/ftp.suse.com/suse/i386/supplementary/KDE/update_for_8.2 to one directory kde3.1.3 . I skipped the source packages for KDE. Step 2) Install them via yast : # init 3 # cd kde3.1.3 # yast -i *.rpm Step 3) Switch back to init 5 level and kdm. I had a problem with libwmf when I started Yast2 saying that several packages need libwmf 0.2.6 not 0.2.8 . I choosed 'Ignore and Risk system incons ...' So a better approach is that SuSE will provide a setup guide how to swithc from 3.1.1 to 3.1.3 . Isn't it ? Several people are choosing their preferate way of updating: apt, yast etc . I would really much appreciate that SuSE will add a simple guide how to update KDE. anyone else any other way to update KDE via Yast ? stefan

Hi Stefan and wellcome to the "break dependencies club" (or BDC) Usually it is enough to do rpm -Fvh *.rpm and all installed kde packages will be updated whitout a glitch, but this doesn't work all the time.... It seems that libwmf is not the only package from the new KDE 3.1.3 list on the suse's homepage that would break the dependecies (see ooqstart also who ask for a gnome-filesystem ;-)). If you start apt-get -f install, it will remove some packages based on the old libwmf (pstoedit, html2ps, pixie, autotrace, ImageMagick, etc). I installed back the packages togheter with the older version of libwmf and I have no problem running KDE 3.1.3 for the last 2 weeks. Ovidiu

Hi Stefan and wellcome to the "break dependencies club" (or BDC)
Many thanks. Do I have anyway to remove all packages like: pstoedit, html2ps, pixie, autotrace, ImageMagick, etc How can you install the old libwmf library as far as the new one is in place ? I have now up and running KDE 3.1.3 and I choosed to use libwmf 0.2.8 even Yast2 asked me about some applications which need the old libwmf - I as well removed ooqstart which I don't need. stefan

On command line use something like this: rpm -Uvh --oldpackage libwmf-0.26....rpm -- Richard Bos Without a home the journey is endless

Just for future reference, what you wanted to do instead of Install and Remove Software was a System Update, and then choose Update installed packages only, and uncheck then Clean up the system checkbox. This will connect to the ftp site and update your kde packages automagically.

Many thanks. I will keep that for future. I have another box around and I will test it soon. Regards, Stefan
