Trying to update foobillard from version 2.4 (goes with suse 8.2) to 2.6, but got error that says "libglcore.so1 is missing". Any fix, please? AFAIK libglcore.so1 must be installed with NVidia 3d drivers, I have those drivers installed, but no libglcore.so1

8.2 has libGLcore.so.1, except that it's named libGLcore.so.1.4363 (or something like that...it'll have theversion number of the nvidia drivers on the end, like the 4363 is above, it's what I just installed). I just don't know what to do to make an rpm that uses the standard name libGLcore.so.1 find what SuSE has named it, since I ran into the same problem with some other app I was trying to install and had the same exact thing come up. Open up the search thing from the main menu, and look for libglcore*, and almost instantly you'll see two things pop up and where they are. One of them *is* named libGLcore.so.1, but it's linked to libGLcore.so.1.4363<whatever>. Hopefully someone will know what to do to workaround this name thing. What gave you that error? When you tried to install the rpm? Just install it "--nodeps". rpm doesn't look at the file system when it looks for files, it only looks in its database for rpms that "provide" the files. Since the nvidia installer thing isn't an rpm, there is no rpm that "provides" those libGL* files. What's needed is a "meta rpm" that doesn't actually contain anything, except for those database entries For the nonce, --nodeps will see it through. If you really don't have the file libGLcore.so.1 on your file system, reinstall the driver, because it should be there.

I only have 'libGLcore.a', no sign of a '.so' file anywhere, and I searched the SuSE 8.0 DVD, couldn't find it... does it only come with the nVIdia drivers? When (attempting) installation from source, it looks for files with functions like: 'glGenProgramsNV" which looks suspiciously like an NVidia sort of suffix. Maybe foobilliard will only run on nVidia hardware, is that possible? -- GPG fingerprint = 3D45 5509 D380 26A4 523E A9D8 A66A 5F38 CA43 BB0E

Yes, although it looks like there is something in the generic X rpms in SuSE 8.2, I have no idea what it is though

No, it has many things that are specialized and optimized for nVidia hardware, but it can be compiled without it. You need to compile it with an option to configure, I *think* it's "--disable-bumpref"

Yes, spot on, that works. Now it segfaults, but thats another matter. Thanks -- GPG fingerprint = 3D45 5509 D380 26A4 523E A9D8 A66A 5F38 CA43 BB0E

No guarantee but maybe you can create the .so file and see if it works ld --whole-archive -shared -o libGLcore.so.1 libGLcore.a ln -s libGLcore.so.1 libGLcore.so ldconfig -- Togan Muftuoglu Unofficial SuSE FAQ Maintainer http://dinamizm.ath.cx
