[opensuse] Firefox crashes?
Firefox is crashing seemly at random. I was running 2.0.0.2 pre which I think came with the update process on 10.2. I've gone and downloaded 2.0.0.1 from the firefox website. So far so good. Anybody else having Firefox crash all the time? Nick -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Hi, Yes, I'm on SuSE10.2 with FF 2.0.0.2pre. Not crashing all the time, but often. And ALWAYS if one tries to watch some film stuf (using VLC). A bit anoying, but yet not enough to render it useles. -- ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Med venlig hilsen/Best regards Verner Kjærsgaard -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I've hit the useless level today. Not linked to video with me. Now the older release is crashing to. Nick -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

about firefox in my 10.2 yields: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686 (x86_64); en-US; rv:1.8.1) Gecko/20061023 SUSE/2.0-30 Firefox/2.0 The updater wants to install update version 2418-0 (mozilla security update 1.5.0.9 (2.0.0.1 for opensuse 10.2!!!!!!), also update version2.0.0.1-0.1. i tried the update and the silly thing started crashing like crazy. Had to remove it and somehow reinstall version 2.0-30. That seems confusing to me. the updater does see the installed version as 2.0-30, shouldn't that be seen as the latest? how does the version numbering go? -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
i have the same problem with firefox Ver.2.0.0.1 random crash ! Thanks a lot!!
MozillaFirefox-2.0.0.1-8.1@i586 is already installed
gabox@titoone:~> firefox

*** CLB *** Google Browser Sync initialized succesfully!
The program 'Gecko' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadDrawable (invalid Pixmap or Window parameter)'.
(Details: serial 2032 error_code 9 request_code 70 minor_code 0)
(Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

I think that's what I'm getting to for an error message to. I started a new session. Which got me a command line log in. Did startx and so far at least things are okay. So I'm not sure what the problem is. Nick -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

When FF starts to crash 'randomly' then often the problem can be fixed by completely clearing FF's Cache (which is in your /home/<yourloginname>/.mozilla directory). You can either delete the Cache directory - it will get recreated when FF is next started - or delete *all* the files in that directory. Try it and see if this clears the problem. I tried that before posting. No luck. It's also unlikely multiple people would have it crashing because of the cache. Nick -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

OK, so it's something else.

Not quite so :-) , in fact more than possible because the people could have gone to the same site - or similarly configured sites - and Cached a badly coded page which is then causing the problem everytime they go to that site. If you read the mozilla.org ('private') Firefox newsgroup you will find clearing the Cache is a reasonably common way of fixing problems. Further, a bug in the cache handling in 2.0.0.2pre (i.e. an incompatibility with 2.0.0.1) could have been causing a problem. Allowing 2.0.0.2pre to create it's own cache would have been a valid workaround. It may well yet be shown that there is a similar problem with some other part of the handling of profiles.
