[opensuse] what's wrong with the dependencies?
Hi List, I reinstalled the system, added the oss, non-oss, update, packman, videolan repositories through community repositories, did an update, and still I'm experiencing the problem I had earlier. First of all the openSuSE Updater will show me that I have an update of amarok and when I click to update it, the progress bar will go and then upon finishing it will show me again that there is the same update available. So when I go to the software management, I see that for example amarok-xine can be updated, but when I click on the update, it gives me "amarok-xine can not be installes due to missing dependencies", amarok-xine_... will be installed by user xine-lib is needed by amarok-xine +8 more and as a conflict resolution it says to install amarok althogh it will change the vendor/ install amarok /, ... but none of them works, if I just click install amarok it gives me 52 more dependency problems. Do you guys know what's going on? I did nothing bad, fresh install add the repositories and that's it... And that happend with a lot of packages, like java-sun-plugin, and many more... Hi Sergey, can you disable Packman and see if update works? -- Regards, Rajko -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Guys you must be careful with the installation sources you put on your system. If you put Packman on your system then you are likely to run into update problems because packman has newer versions of some packages. That amarok update continually being there is certainly a bug, I experienced it until i updated it from the amarok on packman's repo. Try that to get rid of it. -Cameron -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Do you _really_ need to add the VideoLAN repo? A similar issue also took place in my computer a few months ago, when I added these same repositories. After I removed VideoLAN repo, all these "change the vendor" messages stopped. As the only package from VideoLAN repo that I really need is libdvdcss, I just downloaded it using the web browser. All other codecs I use I get from PackMan, through YaST2. I also update the whole system enabling only oss, non-oss and update repositories; only after doing so I will add PackMan and install additional codecs and other stuff. However this is a personal policy. Kind regards... -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Thanks Rajko, Cameron and Carlos! It was strange, but I went through this again, fresh install -> add oss, non-oss, update repos and then update, then add videolan -> libdvdcss -> remove videolan -> add packman -> the same problems with amarok. playing around a bit I discovered that it gives package dependency failures for libtunepimp5 (and more), so I went to that package, there I had two of them libtunepimp and libtunepimp5. When I tried to update the libtunepimp it failed, but if for libtunepimp5 it updated and automatically deleted the other one. I also had to go and "manually" update the libspeex package (right click - update, I have no idea why it was giving the package depedency problems with that) and then amarok updated successfully. One thing, I still have that always updating amarok down there, but when I go to yast it doesn't show that the new version is available. I will really give it a second thought next time when thinking of reinstalling the system. Thanks a lot again!
