Caching slrn headers?
* Preston Crawford
Does anyone know how to do this? I can't figure it out.
I do not believe that you can 'cache' headers. If you are on dialup, you can download the entire post for off-line reading with slrnpull. As of 0.9.8.0, slrnpull can download headers only. One can then mark articles for later download in slrn. (if you need it, I have an RPM built for 8.2, along with the src RPM) If you are using leafnode, try "delaybody = 1" in /etc/leafnode/config. This has the same effect as above. -- Homepage http://scott.exti.net XFce desktop environment http://www.xfce.org Goodies for the XFce desktop http://xfce-goodies.berlios.de GPG public key ID: 811B00AB

Please provide the parameter to download headers only. It *is* possible in slrn to mark articles and later download them with slrnpull. But I know of no manner to download *only* the headers with *slrnpull*. -- Patrick Shanahan Registered Linux User #207535 http://wahoo.no-ip.org @ http://counter.li.org HOG # US1244711 Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/photos

from /usr/share/doc/packages/slrn/slrnpull/README.offline: ===== The group entries in slrnpull.conf now may have a fourth field that indicates if you want to use true offline reading for that group. If you set it to 1, slrnpull will fetch only the headers of the new articles it would otherwise retrieve completely. slrnpull also has a new command-line switch connected with true offline reading: --marked-bodies Tells slrnpull to fetch only the article bodies that were marked for download within slrn (see next section on how to do that). slrnpull also does this when run without this switch; specifying --marked-bodies simply keeps it from checking for new articles. ===== -- Homepage http://scott.exti.net XFce desktop environment http://www.xfce.org Goodies for the XFce desktop http://xfce-goodies.berlios.de GPG public key ID: 811B00AB

Thanks, this is *not* indicated in TFM :^(. This would have been nice when I was on dialup. **Another instance where RTFM is the *wrong* answer** -- Patrick Shanahan Registered Linux User #207535 http://wahoo.no-ip.org @ http://counter.li.org HOG # US1244711 Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/photos
