Install SuSE 9.3 over FTP using the "mini" ISO
I downloaded the "SUSE-Linux-9.3-mini-installation.iso" image. Now, how do I install over FTP? I found a local mirros at http://mirrors.sunsite.dk/suse/i386/9.3/ But it looks as if I need a IP number to install via FTP, or do I misunderstand something (e.g. should the "mini" installer contain a mini system with YaST thatacn be used for installig the system?). This isn't the complete version. For one thing, there is no kernel, and no aaa_base. This is just the packages that make up the difference between the DVD and the CDs, plus the sources

Tanks. Do you know where I can find a list of (complete) 9.3 mirrors? Back in the old days it was somehow easy to find a list via suse.com, but now the download section at Novell has changed. The 9.3 ftp version is -not- available yet. Probably a couple more weeks yet. -- Ken Schneider UNIX since 1989, linux since 1994, SuSE since 1998 "The day Microsoft makes something that doesn't suck is probably the day they start making vacuum cleaners." -Ernst Jan Plugge

When asked for an ip enter the ip address of the mirror. In this case mirrors.sunsite.dk resolves to 130.225.247.87. Enter that for the address. John

Just for interest sake, you can do a 9.3 FTP install using the 9.2 Install CD. Yes, 9.2. It boots up with the 9.2 kernel, but the rest is 9.3. I've copied the contents of the DVD to our server at work and installed all the workstations that way (didn't have the CD on me). Works perfectly.
But it looks as if I need a IP number to install via FTP, or do I misunderstand something (e.g. should the "mini" installer contain a mini system with YaST thatacn be used for installig the system?). Yes. I my case it was IP: 192.168.16.2 Dir: suse/9.3
You'll have to find what exactly you're using. In the mirror you quoted it would be: IP: 130.225.247.87 Dir: suse/i386/9.3 That mirror doesn't seem to be complete though. -- Kind regards Hans du Plooy SagacIT (Pty) Ltd hansdp at sagacit dot com

That mirror doesn't seem to be complete though.
The full ftp install version is not in place yet. Taken from the readme.txt file: Additional note: The complete SUSE Linux 9.3 FTP distribution is being worked on and will be made available in this directory. Meaning it is -not- there yet. If it is not on the main site it cannot be on any mirrors. -- Ken Schneider UNIX since 1989, linux since 1994, SuSE since 1998 "The day Microsoft makes something that doesn't suck is probably the day they start making vacuum cleaners." -Ernst Jan Plugge
