I am trying to make a permanent smb mount point for a (non browsable) Windows share in 10.1, this used to be easy with Lineighbourhood, but I cannot see how to do it with the new 10.1 "personal settings" samba bits. Do I have to resort to hacking /etc/fstab? Probably not Tim, however to do it via fstab... Example fstab entry ( you may want to add 'server' to hosts file ): //server/share /mnt/mountpoint cifs ro,uid=username,gid=group,credentials=/etc/samba/smb.auth 0 0 Contents of /etc/samba/smb.auth ( protect appropriately ) : username=username password=whatever
Probably not Tim, however to do it via fstab...

I dont think we can use it in /etc/fstab anymore. Use /etc/samba/smbfstab instead. From Suse 9.3, i dont use /etc/fstab cause it gives me errors whenever i start it. -- Arie Reynaldi Zanahar reymanx at gmail.com http://www.reynaldi.or.id

I'm having an even more basic problem at the moment, using Konqueror I can get into the share fine, but trying:- sudo smbmount //server/share/ /mnt/K-drive -o rw,uid=me,gid=users,username=login,debug=4 leads to:- 11997: session request ok Password: <entered password> cli_session_setup: NT1 session setup failed! 11997: session setup failed: ERRDOS - ERRnoaccess (Access denied.) SMB connection failed So somehow its refusing to authenticate me this way although it does via konqueror! -- Tim Nicholson http://www.bbc.co.uk/ This e-mail (and any attachments) is confidential and may contain personal views which are not the views of the BBC unless specifically stated. Try using mount.cifs instead of smbmount. Scott -- Respice post te, mortalem te esse memento POPFile, the OpenSource EMail Classifier http://popfile.sourceforge.net/ Linux 2.6.11.4-21.14-default x86_64 SuSE Linux 9.3 (x86-64)

I have tried both, and access is denied both ways. Since it gets as far as asking for a password both ways it would seem to be the authentication that is going awry. -- Tim http://www.bbc.co.uk/ This e-mail (and any attachments) is confidential and may contain personal views which are not the views of the BBC unless specifically stated. Actually if I use mount.cifs I get a:- retrying with upper case share name mount error 6 = No such device or address Which suggests that mount.cifs is authenticating properly but something else is upsetting it. Aha, just discovered that if I leave of the trailing / on the to be mounted URI it works! -- Tim http://www.bbc.co.uk/ This e-mail (and any attachments) is confidential and may contain personal views which are not the views of the BBC unless specifically stated.
