Dear All, I have finally my 3 computers networked wirelessly and working well. The Engenius 2511 pcmcia card works great with Suse 8 on my Compaq Presario 1700T laptop. The Siemens card was supposed to work with Linux but I just did not have the know how to get it to so put it in my husband's Win 98 computer and that works fine there. The Siemens SpeedStream wireless router/print server works just fine so far except I could not get the printing part to work yet. I am sure it is because of me and not the machine. The only problem is wep. I have not been able to get that to work. It is done in a browser for each machine. It is my understanding that you are supposed to do the client machines first then your server machine last. Well once I get a key and everything identical I cannot get on the net on my 2 client machines. Actually once I setup one browser then I cannot even get into the proper web page on any other machine for setup. Does anyone know how to do this? I am hearing that wep is not so secure anyway. What about setting up ssh, ssl, or IPsec instead? I am not familiar with any of them but would they keep snoops roaming around the neighborhood from getting into my network? Any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Marcia
WEP protocol can use static/shared or dynamic/unique
keys for authentication between client and wireless
access point, in your case your wireless router
whereas ssh, ssl or IPsec are end-to-end protocols to
secure comunication among two IP hosts so if your
concern is not let anybody else get connected to your
wireless router you have to stick with wep.
Do you have your SSID & computer names set up properly
as well? I dont know your Siemens stuff but these are
common things plus wep key to be set.
