pcmcia still broken in the 2.4.12 kernel posted today..arrgh!
I tried yet again to update to Hubert Mantel's 2.4.12 kernel today because I noticed that it was a newly built RPM dated today. I thought maybe the PCMCIA troubles would disappear. I was wrong. I am trying to use these kernels because I have yet to see a kernel posted to update 7.2 that is above .7 and with the root exploit effecting all kernels below .9.. I would think that there would be an update because EVERY othe distribution has done this. What's the wait? Is it to get people to buy 7.3? I'm going to buy 7.3..but damn I don't have time to do an update right now to this entire system. :/ This is the boot.msg..maybe it's something I'm doing wrong..but since no one inside or outside SuSE made a comment on my other posting..I just simply don't know what the issue is. I'm not to hot with laptop's and this PCMCIA crap. :( The part of the boot.msg that should help: Starting PCMCIA (using scheme: SuSE)/lib/modules/2.4.12-4GB/kernel/drivers/pcmcia/i82365.o: init_module: No such device Hint: insmod errors can be caused by incorrect module parameters, including invalid IO or IRQ parameters /lib/modules/2.4.12-4GB/kernel/drivers/pcmcia/i82365.o: insmod /lib/modules/2.4.12-4GB/kernel/drivers/pcmcia/i82365.o failed /lib/modules/2.4.12-4GB/pcmcia-external/i82365.o: unresolved symbol pci_irq_mask /lib/modules/2.4.12-4GB/pcmcia-external/i82365.o: insmod /lib/modules/2.4.12-4GB/pcmcia-external/i82365.o failed /lib/modules/2.4.12-4GB/pcmcia-external/i82365.o: insmod i82365 failed /lib/modules/2.4.12-4GB/kernel/drivers/pcmcia/ds.o: init_module: Operation not permitted /lib/modules/2.4.12-4GB/kernel/drivers/pcmcia/ds.o: insmod /lib/modules/2.4.12-4GB/kernel/drivers/pcmcia/ds.o failed /lib/modules/2.4.12-4GB/pcmcia-external/ds.o: init_module: Operation not permitted /lib/modules/2.4.12-4GB/pcmcia-external/ds.o: insmod /lib/modules/2.4.12-4GB/pcmcia-external/ds.o failed /lib/modules/2.4.12-4GB/pcmcia-external/ds.o: insmod ds failed cardmgr[278]: starting, version is 3.1.22 cardmgr[278]: no pcmcia driver in /proc/devices cardmgr[278]: exiting done I'm just at a loss.
