Well wit's end is getting closer to describing things. My boss got me a brand spanking new HP 5490c scanner with an autofeeder. Something I actually need for my research. The problem is, it is usb and I cannot get SuSE to work with it at all. When I use yast2 to do a hardware check it sees the usb port and even says there is a 5400 series scanner but that is as far as things go. I have tried every defination for hp scanner and none will work. Help and suggestions gleefully followed and accepted. -- Dr. Roy F. ==================== Roy Try using "scanimage -v" in a shell without the quotes to see if Sane is seeing your scanner. "sane-find-scanner" only looks for scsi devices and if you are using a USB like I am, then you need to specify the device name. Such as "sane-find-scanner /dev/usb/scanner0" and that should give you a good result if all else is correct. scanimage -v gave me "no sane devices found" sane-find-scanner /dev/usb/scanner0 and it did not find the scanner so I loaded the module again (just to be sure) and lo and behold sane-find-scanner: checking /dev/usb/scanner0... open ok but once sane-find-scanner found that scanner, the program froze and just sat there.
