Hi all, As promised, I installed 8.1 on my work machine earlier this week, and have been building packages to update the GNOME install on 8.1, it's taking some time, but I'm aiming to get as many done by the end of this week as possible because I'm on holiday next week. Advantages of using the packages from www.usr-local-bin.org include proper GNOME2 menu integration, and more frequent updates when I'm not on holiday ;) Unfortunately, there will be a delay on the pilot-link stuff. I got the latest version of pilot-link to build, but unfortunately I couldn't get the current version of gnome-pilot to build against it, so that's going to have to wait until I get back from holiday. Evolution has also been causing me some problems, but I'm hoping to beat it into submission by the end of today. I'll be uploading them all tomorrow, so don't hit the site yet, and I'll be removing the library packages that I've not built, these tend to be in good versions already in 8.1, but the following packages are already done: gftp gnome-spell galeon (built against the Mozilla 1.1 builds for 8.1) gnumeric gnucash ulb-menu (attempt at creating a usr-local-bin submenu in the GNOME2 menu - doesn;t quite work properly, not sure why, but doesn't screw anything up...) I hope to have Evolution, AbiWord and X-Chat done by the end of the week, specifically, the GTK2 port of X-Chat (1.9.x) and AbiWord 1.0.3 (Abi 1.1.0 - the first beta of 1.2 doesn't build, although I don't think this is a SuSE specific issue) The status of Gabber and Gaim is unsure at this time, I'll certainly not be doing a build of gaim-applet as this is incompatible with the GNOME2 panel. if anyone has a tarball of the new GNOME Notification Area Applet (in GNOME CVS apparently, although I can't find it...) that I can download, please email me and let me know, this provides the status dock functionality that Gabber uses, and the Gaim > 0.59.x will use when it's released (should be very soon). Upcoming additions will include updated Metacity/Metacity-setup and possibly the GTK2 port of the GIMP. As soon as there's a Galeon2 beta I'll do my best (Mozilla builds allowing) to add that too. I'll post on the list when I've uploaded stuff tomorrow, hope you enjoy the packages when they're all done. Thanks in advance for all the work!

:-( Ah well, I can wait awhile longer!
Upcoming additions will include updated Metacity/Metacity-setup
Any chance that you can do a build of one of the versions that doesn't force windows to the front on clicking?
hope you enjoy the packages when they're all done.

I'm not sure - there's been talk about this on bugzilla, and there are certainly patches there for it. Unfortunately, I am not confident compiling my own versions (it tends not to work and I don't know enough about the system to fiddle) and have no idea how to apply diffs. I could send you the patch I'm thinking of - it adds a config option for this to Metacity 2.4.0, which is (AIUI) the version supplied with SuSE 8.1. No, because this is a Mozilla problem, not a Galeon problem. at the moment it crashes on Flash too, although there is a patch for this, which I will try to build it with before the end of today if I have time... It also is subject to some known bugs when building Mozilla/Galeon with gcc 3.2, I'll be including the relevant Bugzilla links in the release notes. -- James Ogley, Unix Systems Administrator, Pinnacle Insurance Plc james.ogley@pinnacle.co.uk www.pinnacle.co.uk +44 (0) 20 8731 3619 Using Free Software since 1994, running GNU/Linux (SuSE 8.0) Updated GNOME RPMs for SuSE Linux: www.usr-local-bin.org ********************************************************************** CONFIDENTIALITY.This e-mail and any attachments are confidential and may also be privileged. James, Thank you for taking time out to build the Gnome packages. Especially for Gnome Spell. I can now see how atrociously I spell and catch it before I hit send button in Evolution.
