[SLE] VNC into screen 0
Hi all, Can we vnc into the user's screen (screen 0) using gnome? I tried to apply the configuration from Fedora: 1. Edit /etc/X11/xorg.conf Add these lines: Section "Module" .......... .......... Load "vnc" EndSection Section "Screen" ........... ........... Option "passwordFile" "/root/.vnc/passwd" .......... EndSection 2. Generate the vnc password as root. 3. Log into the system using vnc: ipaddress:0 Well, it doesn't work. So, then I use Yast to allow remote administration, it works, but only on screen 1. Can we do it on screen 0? In /var/log/xorg.log I see this: (II) I810(0) : VNC disabled Thanks. -- Fajar Priyanto | Reg'd Linux User #327841 | Linux tutorial http://linux2.arinet.org 11:53:34 up 3:21, 2.6.17-1.2139_FC5 GNU/Linux Let's use OpenOffice. http://www.openoffice.org -- Check the headers for your unsubscription address For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the archives at http://lists.suse.com Please read the FAQs: suse-linux-e-faq@suse.com

Hi Fajar, I'd suggest that you try and use package "vino". It is used by default in the latest Ubuntu release for instance. Please, have a look at the following article for a description: http://gnomejournal.org/article/29/remote-desktop-administration-using-vino Thanks, -mw -- Check the headers for your unsubscription address For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the archives at http://lists.suse.com Please read the FAQs: suse-linux-e-faq@suse.com

You can't attach to the local display at all using vnc. What you are looking for is x11vnc. See http://www.karlrunge.com/x11vnc/ for more info, http://linux01.gwdg.de/~pbleser/rpm-navigation.php?cat=Network/x11vnc/ for packages built for SUSE. -- Check the headers for your unsubscription address For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the archives at http://lists.suse.com Please read the FAQs: suse-linux-e-faq@suse.com

Thank you all for the help. I appreciate it. I will definitely try it. In the mean time, after extensive googling using different keywords, I managed to find this page: http://en.opensuse.org/YaST_Remote_Administration Superb! Suse is really amazing. -- Fajar Priyanto | Reg'd Linux User #327841 | Linux tutorial http://linux2.arinet.org 08:57:16 up 18 min, 2.6.17-1.2139_FC5 GNU/Linux Let's use OpenOffice. http://www.openoffice.org -- Check the headers for your unsubscription address For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the archives at http://lists.suse.com Please read the FAQs: suse-linux-e-faq@suse.com

Yes, it's quite simple using sax2, just enable and configure remote access in the VNC section. Then you will get a VNC port 0. It's done by the module "vnc" of the xorg server. -- Viele Grüße ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Michael Behrens -- Check the headers for your unsubscription address For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the archives at http://lists.suse.com Please read the FAQs: suse-linux-e-faq@suse.com
