[opensuse] ancient hardware strikes again ...
<frustration vent> You might remember my postings about my new Zotac Nano CI323 and how I couldn't get it to play HDTV from mythtv. It's quad-core 1.6GHz celeron wasn't fast enough for the preferred software decoder setup, but getting video acceleration to work wasn't going anywhere. It looks like it _could_ work, but I'm still seeing e.g.: [drm:intel_cpu_fifo_underrun_irq_handler [i915]] *ERROR* CPU pipe C FIFO underrun All of this playing the video acceleration made me wonder if my current mythtv frontend box might just benefit from it. Et voila! a single change in the setup, and my ancient IBM Thinkcentre M52 now plays HDTV. Its single Celeron and 1Gb of memory is pretty much maxed out, and it is getting a little noisy, but it works. For sale: new Zotac Nano CI323 with 4Gb memory, in original packaging. 4K Ultra HD capable ... -- Per Jessen, Zürich (15.3°C) http://www.hostsuisse.com/ - virtual servers, made in Switzerland. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

LOL :-) I'll be a little naughty: your old box is 32 or 64 bit? ;-) I just looked up that Zotac Nano CI323 of yours. Amazon says 377€, so not that cheap. Fanless. What little fanless boxes could be used for multimedia topbox, I wonder? They should include a Digital TV receiver, to be useful. I'm thinking of either getting one of those or a ready made box to replace my soon outdated gigaset 740. - -- Cheers, Carlos E. R. Oh, the old one is only 32bit. I'm now thinking of swapping it with a slightly newer Fujitsu desktop, dual-core. Maybe that'll make less noise.

Uh, that is way off. I paid CHF195.55 including 4Gb memory.

As long as you can get the video acceleration to work, they should be fine, all of them probably. There are even people using Raspis as multimedia clients. -- Per Jessen, Zürich (15.7°C) http://www.dns24.ch/ - free dynamic DNS, made in Switzerland. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

An old laptop, perhaps? That's what I use for my home server. Plus two external, big, hard disks.

Google says: 195.55 Swiss Franc equals 178.98 Euro Oh.

I'll have to search. The problem is the TV card. My current little box has two internal tuners, which is very nice for the task. Perhaps the mythtv page has suggestions. - -- Cheers, Carlos E. R. My setup is split into two - frontend and backend. The backends, again two older desktops, bought at 25/each, are stowed away in the basement. They have the receiver cards. I had hoped to end up with just a little black Zotac box in the living room, but that may have to wait a year or two. -- Per Jessen, Zürich (8.6°C) http://www.dns24.ch/ - free dynamic DNS, made in Switzerland. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

I've been wondering what to do with the Mexican peso someone slipped into my change... I trust you'll pay the shipping though? :D -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
