[opensuse] SUSE 12.1 .readahead & .config
Hello SUSE folkz, I just did a fresh install of new openSUSE 12.1 distro. I've noticed that there is a directory .config and a file .readahead in the / root level. What is the purpose for these .config and .readahead? Why are they in / root level instead of somewhere in /etc, /var or other more appropriate locations? Thank you in advance for any thoughts. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Indeed those files appear to be misplaced, the .config directory look like a leftover from the installation.. and the .readahead file appears to be written at boot time, dunno what writes it, monitoring it with "audit" may yield some clues. Please quite the bg ID here if you work on the /.readahead/ issue of systemd. The /.config/ smells like a YaST install issue. Can the initial reporter please file a bug report on this one? Thanks. Lars -- Lars Müller [ˈlaː(r)z ˈmʏlɐ] Samba Team SUSE Linux, Maxfeldstraße 5, 90409 Nürnberg, Germany

I think this is a long standing thing. I have that directory as well, and the timestamp is from December 2010, which is around when I installed 11.4. Anders -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Not a bug, quote from fcrozat: "I just checked upstream code and it is not a bug, this file is supposed to be here (it can't be moved to /var/*, since it could be in a different file system), to store readahead data for future boot." -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
