Correction: "MOST" of YaST2 rocks I'm still disappointed that YaST2 does not allow me to install SuSE 6.3 to non-adjacent partitions. To install to non-adjacent partitions, I must still use YaST1. Mandrake 7.0-2 uses a top-notch graphical installer called drakx. SuSE would be wise to incorporate drakx into the next release of SuSE Linux. Matt

To: "suse-linux-e@suse.com" Subject: [SLE] YAST2 rocks! Date: Mon, 13 Mar 2000 13:19:00 -0500 I just ran YAST 2 on a box and told it to set up a default minimal system. Wow!!!! My mother could do that! Good Job SuSE!
One thing that did happen when I changed my hard drive set up did get me thinking about a type of management tool. I originally installed on an old 340 MB HD with just the minimal setup. I then added a 10G HD and put /usr, /var, and /opt on the big drive. I didn't think to migrate the contents before I rebooted. Needless to say the system wasn't very happy to find empty partitions where its brain used to be. It would be cool if that could be done in one command, e.g. "migrate /dev/hda3/usr /dev/hdb3/usr" which could be made part of the disk admin utility.
Again YAST2 rocks!
Steve

Hi all! I've got a stupid question: How do I run YaST2? I started out with SuSE 6.1. Then I borrowed the 6.2 CDs from a friend and nearly updated everything. Now I installed some packages via FTP from the 6.3 distribution (including YaST 2, but not the base system - BTW: is it safe to update the base system via FTP?). So what do I type on the command line to run YaST2? I only find developer documentation, but no user documentation and no executable. Sorry for bothering you with a triviality like this. Don't bother searching for YaST2 on SuSE Linux 6.3. If you already installed the system, there is not much use for it, since it was only an installer. I cannot be used for configuration. Hi everybody! When I wanted to reconfirm which packages related to YaST2 are installed on my system I started YaST 1.03. Now I ran into trouble with it: Selecting FTP as installation source does no longer work. Here what I do: Adjustments of installation -> Select installation medium -> Installation from an FTP site F5=Check Connecting to ftp.suse.com[209.144.167.150] Check server directory... Server directory is: /pub/suse/i386/current/suse Closed connection to ftp.suse.com[209.144.167.150] Settings Ok. F10=Ok and now I'm immediately back at "Select installation medium". Selecting a CD-ROM as installation medium works just fine. Selecting the FTP server worked always worked fine before. I don't remember changing anything relating to YaST 1.03 since it worked the last time. Any clues? Sorry, didn't know this was a freaking grammer contest. : ) I did not know that though, so thanks for pointing that out, now if I can just deprogram that from my brain. A lot of mailing lists ...
Two. As for the filtering, I just have a rule to toss everything that has "suse-linux-e@suse.com" in any header into a folder.
That works also. Now that I think about it, another reason for putting it in the subject line that is some mail clients (Elm, Pine, OutLook) don't put the header in the "main screen" but ussually just the sending and subject. One is able to see and detremine quickly from their "main screen" of their email client that this message is or is not from a certain mailing list. Jack

Will it accept the present partition scheme? I've got it the way *I* like it, and would rather not switch. ;-) Oh, one other quick question.. I was lucky enough to get the Cebit release while I was up there. Would it be possible to use it as the base install, and then install other packages from the 6.3 release? I tried it by updating 6.3 with the Cebit release, and didn't have much luck. Oh, and for those of you that didn't get to Cebit, SuSE had one of the hottest booths going. One heck of a great show. What??? They didn't let you go? Bummer isn't a strong enough word to describe missing it. I first went to the booth in the linux pavilion in hall 6. Small, but very nice folks.. I picked up lots of stickers.. ;-) Then I made my way down to Hall 3. What a shock!! I had seen the pictures on the site that showed how it was supposed to look. But this was amazing. And everyone was really friendly. I got to talk to one of the VMware guys about OS/2 support. He listened, and was very helpful as was everyone else there. I really enjoyed all the demonstrations that were going on. I'll bet I spent at least 3 or 4 hours just watching everything that was going on. and would have spent more time if I didn't have to work.. ;-) I also have heard rumours that Linux might have their own hall next year. Now that would be totally awesome.. ;-) Mike -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/

Hello all, I would second this..wait for 6.4. I use to think that Linux was a big waste of time before I discovered SuSE.
