[opensuse] Enuff of the Unknown Sender and no (subject)
Nearly half of my email from this list recently has been from Unknown Sender and (no subject). Is it relevant to me? I have no idea without opening it. Wastes a lot of time, so I don't anymore. I for one object and would like to know if the maintainer of this list can do anything about it. winstephen Sarasota FL USA -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I'm in Canada and use T'Bird and tried KMail last week. All from the openSUSE list had headers and senders. I'd complain about the 'reply to sender' rather than 'reply to list' but I understand that is worn out long ago. I have my procmail filter out messages that have no subject line and also messages that have no sender since these are characteristic of a lot of spam. Each go into a separate folder away from regular mail I check that at least once a week. Nothing suse-like has shown up in either of them. -- The great tragedy of Science - the slaying of a beautiful hypothesis by an ugly fact. Thomas H. The mailing list itself will add [opensuse] to the subject, so if there was absolutely nothing in the subject line, it cannot possibly have come through the list Unless there is a bug in the list management software, in which case all headers should be sent to the mailing list admin for investigation. There is a bug in nfs though, which can sometimes cause kmail to be unable to read the email at all, in which case it will display the email as no sender, no subject, no date and (of course) no contents. Remounting the nfs folder will "fix" it (until the next time it happens). If this is what is happening here, I would love to know about it, since I have a bug report open about it, and the more info we can get the faster it can get solved. Check headers. In KMail press 'v' to see full message. It can be spam with fake "To:" field. This and the info suggests that client is probably not an issue nor is the list, but something that is on the route your mail is taking that is mangling headers for some unknown reason. I assume from the gmail yahoo thing that you have some sort of convoluted way of routing your mail from various locations but working out just which bit is causing the problem is likely to very time consuming. I would suggest that you simplify things. One way would be to use fetchmail to pickup mail directly from your various mail accounts and deliver all this mail to a single local user location. This may even give you handle on just what is broken and where. - -- ============================================================================== I have always wished that my computer would be as easy to use as my telephone.
