I am running SuSE9.0/KDE3.3.1 and have setup my printer with Webmin. The printer is connected to a Win 2000XP platform on the same LAN as the linux box. When I attempt to print a test page (in Webmin) I get the following error messages: Status Information, attempt 1 of 3: sending job 'root@abnormal+696' to HP@192.168.2.14 connecting to '192.168.2.14', attempt 1 cannot open connection to 192.168.2.14 - Connection refused Make sure the remote host supports the LPD protocol repeated twice at ten second intervals. What have I failed to do at this point. Konqueror connects to the win box without any problems. Thanks in advance. -- Stephen P. Hi. AFAIK (people please correct me if wrong) Windows doesn't support LPD(which has been the default printing system for Linux for a long time). But you can access a shared windows printer using the SAMBA client that comes with CUPS (the standard SuSE printing System these days). Here's a quick way of doing it: 1. Start Yast. 2. Go to Hardware -> Printer 3. In the window that comes up, choose "Other (not detected)" and press "Configure" 4. Choose "Print via SMB Network Server" 5. Now you have to fill inf the info for the computer where the printer is installed. Under "host name of the printer server", input the windows computer's IP or host name (in your case I think it is 192.168.2.14). Now click on the "Lookup" button. It should find the name you gave to your printer's shared queue (HP I suppose). Otherwise, just write it on the field labelled "Name of the remote queue". 6. Finally, if you set a username and/or password to access this printer, chuck them into the corresponding fields. 7. Now click on "test remote SMB access". If it doesn't get you any error message, then you can click on "Next" 8. Choose a name and description for your printer. If you wish you can test printing by clicking the so-called button. 9. Now choose the manufacturer and model of your printer, then click "Next". 10. Yast will now display a summary of the printer's settings. If you think they're OK, click Next and you'll be finished. I hope this helps! Cheers, Anderson
Thanks for the reply.

That didn't work, but as soon as I entered 'igor' (without the quotes, of course) clicking on Lookup returned 'igor.ffc' (which I think is the correct). I used HP as the name of the remote queue (this is what is returned by LinNeighborhood) and entered the User and Password Test remote SMB access generated an error message that ping worked but the connection failed. But then I went on with your instructions, and IT WORKED!!!!!!!!
Now choose the manufacturer and model of your printer, then click "Next". 10. Yast will now display a summary of the printer's settings. If you think they're OK, click Next and you'll be finished.
I hope this helps!
Cheers,
Anderson
