Hello. Could someone help me with this weird problem I am having installing 7.3 pro alongside Win98. Everything goes as planned with all my hardware recognised and part ions organised until it gets time to test the monitor, which then switches it's self off completely. I have the latest drivers for it which Linux accepts and installs I have tried every resolution on offer within the program to no avail (including disableapic stuff). I have tried a text install and then use Sax2......same problem the monitor dies. The machine appears to lockup and the only way out is to reboot back to the choose monitor screen and try again. Frankly I am stumped, having no experience of Linux at all which I only bought two weeks ago and have been trying to install ever since :( . Monitor is a Proview 770 ( Not the best I agree but this monitor runs fine at any res under windows) running on a ATI Radeon All-in-wonder --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com). Version: 6.0.314 / Virus Database: 175 - Release Date: 11/01/02

go through a regular install and when it asks you if you want x11 say no... this will give you a text install. (Donb't worry you will be there in a minute.) After the rest of the programs finish installing log in as root. Install x with XF86Setup complete the install with that. try x to ensure it runs. (yes this is an older version of x. exit x backup that config file. (always a good idea) still in text mode. Now do Sax2. Remember do NOT say you want 3d at this point and tell it to use the existing config. Hopefully this will get you to Xfree 4. With a detected monitor. (you will do 3d later)

Hi, My best suggestion would be to do the following: 1). Get all the info about the monitor you possible can: H-Sync, V-Sync, Supported Resolutions and their Refresh Rates. 2). Install Linux and when it comes to the monitor setup, type the values in the fields below and select the correct resolution. This should work (it has for me in the past on version 7.0, 7.1, and 7.2). What concerns me is that I have installed 7.3 on about 20 different configurations of machines to date and I have never had an issue like this (it used to happen in previous releases). I hope this helps Q On Wednesday 13 February 2002 18:21, Ray Abbott wrote:
