What version of kermit are you using?
6.0.192, straight off the CD in the book (the sources on the CD, that is).
When I checked the kermit web site recently, it didn't seem that the 7.0
release added any capability I needed.
I did, however, need to add a couple of includes to ckutio.c:
I'm using Version 7.0.196 without any problems at work. The configuration file for rzsz is in ckurzsz.ini and does not look anything like what you have mentioned above.
I just use rz for simple batch downloads (I use kermit itself for uploads to my ISP; they're infrequent enough I don't mind the extra few keystrokes to invoke kermit), and I give it the -U and -p args, but I omitted all that in my earlier note to emphasize the I/O redirection. Looking in the 192 ckurzsz.ini file in my distribution, I must agree it looks pretty different from what I showed, but I believe after the dust settles, it comes down to what I had, with the exception of the cua/ttyS change you note below.
As far as I know /dev/cua devices are now obsolite and are replaced by /dev/ttyS devices.
And voila'! it now works: define rz !rz -U -P /dev/modem It might also work to simply use /dev/modem for both I and O. I recall something about szrz working better if it thinks it's sending its output somewhere different from its input. The thing that got me was all the references in the SuSE 6.3 manual to the /dev/cua interfaces. I guess paper lags things a bit... Thanks for the tip, Graham.
