[opensuse] Fwd: Undelivered Mail Returned to Sender
I keep getting these in response to list posts. It would be nice if
people used proper email addresses when they post here. Perhaps the
mods should unsubscribe him.

I'm getting those messages because email sent to him is bouncing. So, how would I email him direct, when his address is not valid? -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

As the mailing-list does the emailing and uses your return addr, his postmaster is your only recourse, unless Henne blocks/drops his mail. Have *you* forwarded sub mail to opensuse+owner and offered an explanation or complaint? Then, you could also design a procmail recipe sending his mail to /dev/null or forwarding it all to his postmaster which would probably raise someones temperature. Or you could just delete it as most of the posters who "reply to all" advise rather than respecting the list guidelines. All actions take effort and none will satisfy everyone. -- (paka)Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA @ptilopteri http://en.opensuse.org openSUSE Community Member facebook/ptilopteri http://wahoo.no-ip.org Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2 Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://linuxcounter.net -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

By "him" I mean "the mods". That is, Henne. - -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. This one worked for me: if allof ( header :contains "subject" "Undelivered Mail Returned to Sender", body :text :contains "markh@mx2.compro.net" ) { discard; stop; } -- Per Jessen, Zürich (13.1°C) http://www.dns24.ch/ - your free DNS host, made in Switzerland. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Well, using Thunderbird one can simply setup with a few clicks and typed letters a message filter which sends these messages to Junk. But what I have now been doing is to send these messages back to the mail bot which is sending me those Undelivered Mail msgs. TB makes doing this rather easy: I sent a batch of these in a matter of a few seconds. Then why not send the mail to "postmaster@mx2.compro.net", who can actually do something, whether he will or not .... Then you actually are harassing someone rather than just increasing web traffic? I thought that this is exactly what I was doing - sending it back to for the "postmaster" to get a taste of the rubbish s/he was sending out by way of bounced mail. Seems to have worked as the incidence of bounced mail became less and less and has has stopped.
And the satisfaction becomes real rather than "imagined".
Oooh, my satisfaction was never imagined, Patrick! It was real, I can tell you. Even without the red pills. If you sent the messages back to postmaster@compro.net, then yes.

I did but I cannot prove it as I have deleted the swag of msgs in the meantime :-( . So let's now say that, "I am pretty sure that I did." But whether it was my effort or someone else's, the 'bouncing' stopped.

Yes, I read it. So I guess the 'bouncing' stopped for the reason he said. (expanded from ): temporary failure
This looks like me. It turns out our company recently switched from an in house mail server to rackspace email. They had temporarily set up some sort of forwarding thing so emails were also being forwarded to our old mail server. All that is now in the process of being disabled. Sorry.
