I appreciate that where there are many hundreds or thousands of users or groups or hosts, a flat file database is going to cause an overhead, and some form of caching should be used. But surely 95% of installations are single or small users systems, so what's the point? It can't possibly have any measurabe difference on system performance. I would like to request that this be disabled by default, and enabled via Yast2 only when it's needed, as I don't believe I should have to wait 10 minutes for the passwd database to time out so a chsh(1) can take effect.
