Have you considered that one using mc might be using it in a virtual console? When that's the case, it's necessary to first switch to X to discover any device notifier waiting on a response, then switch back to return to the task at hand.

I see only releases of 10.3, 11.1 & 11.2. Does 11.0 have its own special hiding place?
