[opensuse] How do I make KDE 4 work and look like KDE3
The subject line says it all. What can I do when installing KDE4 to make it work and look as much as possible like KDE3.5. I'd like to find menus in the places I expect, I want to use Konqueror, etc. Does anyone have a "cheat" sheet that tells us how to do this? 1) You can add the classic KDE 3 menu to the panel instead of the default menu. Though Suse in particular had the KDE4-type menu in KDE3. 2) What other _specific_ changes would you like? -- Dotan Cohen http://what-is-what.com http://gibberish.co.il א-ב-ג-ד-ה-ו-ז-ח-ט-י-ך-כ-ל-ם-מ-ן-נ-ס-ע-ף-פ-ץ-צ-ק-ר-ש-ת ا-ب-ت-ث-ج-ح-خ-د-ذ-ر-ز-س-ش-ص-ض-ط-ظ-ع-غ-ف-ق-ك-ل-م-ن-ه-و-ي А-Б-В-Г-Д-Е-Ё-Ж-З-И-Й-К-Л-М-Н-О-П-Р-С-Т-У-Ф-Х-Ц-Ч-Ш-Щ-Ъ-Ы-Ь-Э-Ю-Я а-б-в-г-д-е-ё-ж-з-и-й-к-л-м-н-о-п-р-с-т-у-ф-х-ц-ч-ш-щ-ъ-ы-ь-э-ю-я ä-ö-ü-ß-Ä-Ö-Ü

That's OK. I've never liked the "new style" menu at all, and have always used the old one.

Can I make Konqueror act like KDE3 Konqueror? Like being able to see all my storage media in konqueror? Can I make dolphin go away, or is there actually something it does that is useful - it just seems like a dumbed down konqueror to me. -- Bob Smits bob@rsmits.ca -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I don't have a problem with seeing other hard drives and USB devices in Konqueror. CAn you bve more specific?

Dolphin went from being terrible, to being just bad, to being great! In KDE 4.2 Dolphin is a really, really great file manager! There was a time where I would never have thought that I would say that. If you are on KDE 4.1 then stick with Konqueror. -- Dotan Cohen http://what-is-what.com http://gibberish.co.il א-ב-ג-ד-ה-ו-ז-ח-ט-י-ך-כ-ל-ם-מ-ן-נ-ס-ע-ף-פ-ץ-צ-ק-ר-ש-ת ا-ب-ت-ث-ج-ح-خ-د-ذ-ر-ز-س-ش-ص-ض-ط-ظ-ع-غ-ف-ق-ك-ل-م-ن-ه-و-ي А-Б-В-Г-Д-Е-Ё-Ж-З-И-Й-К-Л-М-Н-О-П-Р-С-Т-У-Ф-Х-Ц-Ч-Ш-Щ-Ъ-Ы-Ь-Э-Ю-Я а-б-в-г-д-е-ё-ж-з-и-й-к-л-м-н-о-п-р-с-т-у-ф-х-ц-ч-ш-щ-ъ-ы-ь-э-ю-я ä-ö-ü-ß-Ä-Ö-Ü

Doesn't seem possible ... it is difficult even to make KDE 4.2 behave like _itself_, mainly due to the (unstable) plasma/plasmoid component, adds good looks while sacrificing functionality. All of this is due to the added 'plasma/plasmoid' thing. Hopefully, the KDE 4.3 release would be stable. Have a read at these, might provide some more info- http://www.kde.org/announcements/4.2/guide.php (Official KDE page) http://www.kde.org/announcements/4.2/desktop.php http://introducingkde4.blogspot.com/2008/11/plasma.html http://www.kdedevelopers.org/node/3883 Jay -- Registered Linux User # 483705 @ http://counter.li.org/ (openSUSE 11.1, i686) Smolts Profile: http://www.smolts.org/client/show/?uuid=pub_b541a450-9bc1-45fd-beab-d46ee43a... kavitsh singh -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
