Is anyone using this printer with SUSE 10.0? If so, your impressions? Problems? Thanks, Fred -- Paid purchaser of ALL SuSE Linux releases since 6.x

Fred, Why are you asking this on the Opensuse list? You've been around long enough to know not too. Just as you have done some OT stuff here. This list is for opensuse topics, no more, no less. Your question will get more response and attention on the suse-e list, as you well know. thanks, Lee

Look, I wanted to know if there were any problems - period! In case you aren't familiar with that printer, it "ain't cheap!!" I don't care to dump that much $$ in a "problem" printer! Fred -- Paid purchaser of ALL SuSE Linux releases since 6.x

And all he was saying was that you'll get better responses on the list thats appropriate for the discussion. That said, I've never had an issue with any HP printers, but I've never used that one specifically. Have you checked the HCL on the wiki & linuxprinting.org? Probably a good idea to put this one the suse-e list as mentioned as well. Joseph M. Gaffney aka CuCullin

It's not listed in the driver list, but there is mention in one article that it does work with a given driver. However, I don't know what distro. the fellow using.

Posted it - no response. It's a $500 printer, discounted, so there's not that many who are going to buy it......not that many need that level of photo printing. Fred -- Paid purchaser of ALL SuSE Linux releases since 6.x
Hi, I look at http://hpinkjet.sourceforge.net/productsmf.php and do not see that printer. I think that site is a good reference to people who want to purchase HP printers. Thadeu On Tuesday 28 February 2006 19:37, Fred A. Miller wrote:

In general, it is. The new version of the 8700 is the 8750. I was able to find enough info. as to how to get it to work with CUPS that I took the chance and ordered it. Thanks, Fred -- Paid purchaser of ALL SuSE Linux releases since 6.x

I realized what you were wanting Fred and I'm sure it's a nice printer, but this is not the place to post such questions, that's the point! You know that, why would you get defensive when someone points it out to you again? I also saw the question on the suse-e list, but it would seem nobody has responded and probably because nobody has such a printer. It must be a very new model. Did you check with HP? regards, Lee

Have a look at http://linuxprinting.org/show_printer.cgi?recnum=HP-PhotoSmart_8700 ;-)

Seconded - sorry for this OT-Mail ;-) To become on-topic again - I just added a link to linuxprinting.org on http://en.opensuse.org/HCL/Printers (oops, that would be something for opensuse-wiki ;-)) Regards, Christian Boltz -- We have a "Reinheits-Gebot" (pureness requirement) in Germany per law for beer (showing that our politicians indeed know what they talk about on this matter) [Eberhard Moenkeberg in opensuse]

Yep.....been there. I've seen work from the 8750 and it IS simply stunning! My Epson Stylus Photo 2200 died and I had to get a replacement here ASAP. I'll known if a few days if I made a wise choice. And, it IS important here to know what hardware is compatible and not. Fred -- Paid purchaser of ALL SuSE Linux releases since 6.x

'Haven't talked to them - yet. The site doesn't list Linux support, but then, that's not something HP is doing, although I do hope that will change soon! I was able to gleen enough info. to go ahead and order it....should be here the 4th. I'll report back once I have it and get it working......just in case someone using packaged 10.0 or opensuse is in need of a high end photo printer. Great, report back to suse-linux-e for the technical details and openSUSE community related stuff here. houghi -- Nutze die Zeit.
