I apologize for posting this here. I didn't see an OT list on Suse. I have a friend that wants to start learning to design his own web pages for his business. Although I have seen some recommendations in the past, but I couldn't them in the archives. I haven't got him over to Linux yet, still working on that. But, I am trying to give him an alternative to Frontpage. I'm looking for suggestions. Barry

Quanta is by far the best, but still not as point-and-click as Microsoft FrontPage. Nvu may be less intimidating possibility for a beginner, but more limited than Quanta in what it can do IMHO. -- Pob hwyl / Best wishes Kevin Donnelly www.kyfieithu.co.uk - Meddalwedd Rhydd yn Gymraeg www.cymrux.org.uk - Linux Cymraeg ar un CD!

Hi Barry, I'm actually busy writing an open source HTML editor for Windows called RingHTML 3.0. It's not WYSIWYG, but it has wizards to help with most normal tasks. You can download it from my website (as in my signature). It is still in alpha stage, meaning that it does not have all the intended features yet, but at this stage it is still quite useful. I use it to edit all the websites I'm in charge of. There are plenty of free editors too (1stPage 2000 springs to mind), but I've found them rather bloated (hence I'm writing my own). So if your friend wants to take a look, and try it out, he's more than welcome. And if he has any comments, he can feel free to e-mail them to me. Barry I have built several web sites for people mainly using Quanta it is not as fully WYSIWYG as the windows things (good job in a way cus most of the windows based designers suck) but also you may find Bluefish usefull i have also used that several times when Quanta had problems with frames a while back you need a browser installed to view your work with Bluefish the viewer is built into Quanta .
Have also tried CoffeCup both the Linux and the windBloZe versions no thanks plus a few other windBloZe ones as well not impressed at all .. Pete -- Linux user No: 256242 Machine No: 139931 G6NJR Pete also MSA registered "Quinton 11" A Linux Only area Happy bug hunting M$ clan, marsh sucks The time is here to FORGET that M$ Corp ever existed the world does not NEED M$ Corp the world has NO USE for M$ Corp it is time to END M$ Corp , Play time is over folks time for action approaches at an alarming pace the death knell for M$ Copr has been sounded . Termination time is around the corner ..
Thanks for the input. I'll have him take a look at Quanta and Bluefish as well. With a little more work, I may be able to get him to finally switch to Linux. Barry
