[opensuse] vmware workstation and vmmon error
I have vmmware workstation installed and when I try to activate the VM I get this error: Could not open /dev/vmmon: No such file or directory. Please make sure that the kernel module `vmmon' is loaded. How can I fix this? -- Michael S. I have not tried vmware workstation 6.x yet, but with version 5.x you have to install the sources for your running kernel and then execute vmware-config.pl once as root to build the required vmware kernel modules. This has to be done once after installing vmware workstation and then again every time you update your kernel. Using a recent version of vmware player, this kernel module building process is done using the GUI, without the need to run vmware-config.pl in the CLI. Don't know about vmware workstation 6.x. I have noticed that there is a race condition during system start-up in which this symptom results. You should be able to rectify it by executing this (as root): % /etc/init.d/vmware restart
