I have replaced my hp970 with a new epson stylus photo 925 using Stylus_Photo_925-gimp-print.ppd.gz and cups. (SuSE 8.1). I installed the printer with Yast/2 after updating the printerdb with the ppd file above. Test printing from Yast/2, Control Center or to lp/lpr does not complete. test print appear in /var/spool/cups but does not print. /var/log/cups/access_log: localhost - - [08/Feb/2003:19:16:12 -0500] "POST /printers/ HTTP/1.1" 200 224 localhost - - [08/Feb/2003:19:16:12 -0500] "POST /classes/ HTTP/1.1" 200 224 localhost - - [08/Feb/2003:19:16:12 -0500] "POST /printers/ HTTP/1.1" 200 112 localhost - - [08/Feb/2003:19:16:12 -0500] "POST /printers/ HTTP/1.1" 200 378 localhost - - [08/Feb/2003:19:16:12 -0500] "POST / HTTP/1.1" 200 207 localhost - - [08/Feb/2003:19:16:12 -0500] "GET /ppd/epsonsp925.ppd HTTP/1.1" 200 121593 localhost - - [08/Feb/2003:19:16:12 -0500] "POST / HTTP/1.1" 200 379 localhost - - [08/Feb/2003:19:16:13 -0500] "POST / HTTP/1.1" 200 140 localhost - - [08/Feb/2003:19:16:13 -0500] "POST / HTTP/1.1" 200 140 localhost - - [08/Feb/2003:19:16:13 -0500] "POST / HTTP/1.1" 200 80 localhost - - [08/Feb/2003:19:16:13 -0500] "POST /printers/epsonsp925 HTTP/1.1" 200 943 /var/log/cups/error_log: I [08/Feb/2003:19:16:13 -0500] Job 324 queued on 'epsonsp925' by 'pat'. Patrick, Edit /etc/cups/cupsd.conf, you will find the debug level settings there. -- Regards, Graham Smith ---------------------------------------------------------

Appears that Stylus_Photo_925-gimp-print(-ijs).ppd looks for a default printer, escp2-925, and cannot find it. I did locate escp2-925.ppd.gz that was in gimp-print-cups-4.2.4-1.i386.rpm and placed the ppd file into /usr/share/cups/model/stp. The Stylus_Photo....ppd was at /usr/share/cups/model/Epson. The Stylus_Photo_925-gimp-print.ppd was obtained generated by linuxprinting.org. I am printing by using the ppd file, Stylus_Photo_895-gimp-print and all functions that I have tested seem to work acceptably although I have not tried a 2880 x 720 DPI photo yet. 2880 x 1440 DPI offered by the 925 is not supported by the 895 ppd. And I have found *no* other ppd files for the Stylus_Photo that work better with the 925. I am very interested in what experience anyone else has had configuring the Epson Stylus Photo 925. -- Patrick Shanahan http://wahoo.no-ip.org Registered Linux User #207535 icq#173753138 @ http://counter.li.org

Hi Patrick, Just a couple of things I just thought of. Have you updated your CUPS program? See:- http://sdb.suse.de/sdb/en/html/jsmeix_print-cups-testversion-81.html Also have you tried generating a new ppd using foomatic from http://www.linuxprinting.org See :- http://www.linuxprinting.org/show_printer.cgi?recnum=Epson-Stylus_Photo_925 http://www.linuxprinting.org/show_driver.cgi?driver=gimp-print-ijs -- Regards, Graham Smith ---------------------------------------------------------

Read about it yesterday, giving serious consideration. Will report back my impressions if I decide to try it.

I have installed the cups-1.1.18-0 and have noticed no differences. The Stylus Photo 925 will print fine but not with the 925 ppd. It was suggested that the Stylus Photo 820 ppd file will provide all the functionality of the 925 with the exception of utilising roll-feed and auto cut-off which I do not need. But, the max quality print for the 820 is 2880x720 and the 925 is 2880x1440. I may edit the 820 ppd and add the 2880x1440 option for test. -- Patrick Shanahan http://wahoo.no-ip.org Registered Linux User #207535 icq#173753138 @ http://counter.li.org
