[opensuse] suse 10.3/kde/evolution
Dear List, Are there more people who are using evolution with kde and the new suse 10.3. distro ? I have this very strange problem.. I can not check in or out any mail from any pop/stmp server . The program just tries it for several minutes and then says it can't reach the host.. I never had this problem with the 10.2 distro (I have been using evolution for quite a long time so we can discard all the trivial "did you write the server name ok?" type of problems). More weirdly, I can send and receive mail using Kmail without any problems.. .. maybe some module regarding the gnome desktop environment is missing (evolution is made for gnome..) ? Any suggestions / hints are welcome ! How could I start "debugging" this ..? some log file maybe? Regards, Sampsa Riikonen P.S. This is a true linux "checkmate".. I can't even migrate to KMail.. the tool (KMailCVT) for importing evolution data to Kmail does not work (it just tilts). -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Possibly something along the lines of http://www.ipdb.org/glossary.php#Tilt?

Perhaps a reference to pinball tables? -- Bob openSUSE 10.3, Kernel 2.6.22.13-0.3-default, KDE 3.5.8 Intel Celeron 2.53GB, 2GB DDR RAM, nVidia GeForce 7600GS -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
yes, the "tilt" ..
.. it was a direct translation from finnish, where
the verb "tilttaa" exists. I thought it was originally
an english saying (after consulting m-w.com I
changed my mind..).
Nevermind, we can still introduce it to the english language..
"Computer/program tilts" = "Computer/program fails/blocks"

Actually, it's an American expression, at least. Dunno about British English, but after watching the rock opera, Tommy, I suspect it's a phenomenon known to them as well. It goes back to the days of mechanical pinball machines, which all have a hardware device that stops the game if anyone tries to tilt the machine to influence the direction a ball is rolling. Everything comes to a stop, and "blocks," so to speak. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Jumping cursor, and than nothing? Perhaps. Starting KMail from console, and attempt to Import mbox may reveal what library makes trouble. -- Regards, Rajko -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I have no trouble using this evolution in this way. Are you sure that you are selecting the correct options? I think it must be a secure connection. I think evolution has defaulted to this for quite a while. It requires a certificate on the pop host. Have you connected to the same pop server in the past with evolution configured in the same way? Can you telnet to the pop host? telnet pophost pop3 You should get something like: Trying xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx... Connected to pophost. Escape character is '^]'. +OK POP3 pophost. v7.59 server ready Replace pophost with your pop server name. -- Roger Oberholtzer OPQ Systems / Ramböll RST Ramböll Sverige AB Kapellgränd 7 P.O.
