The point is.... that M$ is bad software... or are the users trying to tweak the software....
I personally have my kids on a windows 98 machine... they beat on that machine... they download things from the net, they get tons of trash... and the system still runs good.
Nobody I know has had that kind of good luck with 95/98. Every single person I know has had problems with 95/98 after enough apps have been installed, sometimes as few as 4 or 5. "Windows running well" isint that kin of an oximoron . M$ just keeps hicupping and coughing and every 4/6 months need its major overhall or so.

The major difference is that Linux is easy to support compared to M$. On Windows try and find out what all those entries in the registry which are not documented or try and find out why a program is failing - generally you get no debug information. Also the amount of memory leaks in M$ applications is extremely high. Also when programing you don't have the facilities to debug a application crash as easily as in Unix systems - (core dump). I believe it is far easier to configure software from a ascii text file then some of those GUI interfaces on the windows applications. The inconsistencies in the use of dll's is a real problem in windows. The majority of M$ applications have been written as single user programs, whereas on Linux the majority are multi-user. This causes large problems on networked computers. Just my $.02 worth. I must beg to differ here. The GUI interface, IMO, is faster unless you happen to already know about that configuration file. That is why installers like YaST2 and Lizard, and D.E.'s like KDE and GNOME are really popular in Linux.
The inconsistencies in the use of dll's is a real problem in windows.
This won't be a reason much longer. MS has implemented a system to protect critical DLL's from being overwritten in Windows 2000 and Windows ME (Millennium Edition). -Tim ----------------------------------------------------------------- Timothy R. That's only going to be slight help. You can still overwrite dlls and save the old ones. What happens when you have several of the same dll with no documentation and don't know which one works best? Windows will continue to have problems as long as vendors supply different dlls with their software.
