Hi! I have a question about digital cameras. Where can I find a list of supported cameras? And, is there someone using a sony digital camera with linux?? How it's going? I plan to buy a Sony Digital Camera but I really don't know if the product will work, so please if someone got a model working, tell me which one? I have a list of interesting models... DSCP50, DSCP51, DSCP71 Thanks Martin

Martin, You may want to take a look at the list of cameras that gphoto2 supports: http://www.gphoto.org/cameras.html. Gphoto2 is included with SuSE and it works great. You can use gtkam as a nice gui interface. it also installs a plugin in the Gimp which also works great to download pictures directly into the Gimp. Sony looks like a nice camera. The only problem is that it only supports Sony ram sticks, not any standard RAM. For that reason, I would not buy it. I'm waiting until the $2400 Canon SLR comes down to earth at ~ $900. and I'll go for it. (!!!) --doug On Friday 24 May 2002 13:18, Charles Griffin wrote:

I am using a Cyber-shot DSC-S70 camera that has a usb interface. I plug it into my SuSE 7.3 box and click my camera icon and the camera is mounted as a fat drive and displayed on konqueror. I can then drag the photos from the camera onto my server, SuSE 7.1 where I sort into the correct directory and browse, display, edit, rotate etc. as I wish. I can then delete the copies on the camera and it is ready to go again. No problems yet, no special camera software, no mention of the camera in any lists, it just simply works. The prints using the gimp on my Epson photo 895 are just as good as those obtained with the epson software on windoze. :-) :-) It was one of the simplest Linux integrations. Peter. At least one of Sony's digital cameras looked attractive, (I haven;t bought anything at all yet) but are you aware that Sony uses its own proprietary storage media, which is not compatible with anything else in the world? --doug At 09:02 05/27/2002 -0400, Hipolito A. Gonzalez M. wrote:

I bought a Digital Camera last month (Canon Powershot S30) after looking at a lot of things and checking with co-workers. For me, the S30 was the best fit. I rejected the Sonys because I wanted a camera with a compact flash card although I would have settled for a Smart Media card. Standalone readers for CF or SM run about $30 US or less retail. There are several that read both. HP/Pentax, Nikon, Olympus, Canon and Sony are excellent There are a lot of very good references complete with specs, opinions and list prices. After looking a bit, I decided I wanted to keep the price <= $500 US for a camera with a small footprint so I can easily put it in a pocket or purse. I also found the Nikon Coolpix series to be excellent as well as the Pentax/Hp cameras. The web sites below have good reviews on just about every decent camera as well as opinions. http://www.steves-digicams.com/hardware_reviews.html http://www.dpreview.com/ http://www.pcworld.com/reviews/article/0,aid,81989,tk,cx031102b,00.asp http://www.dcresource.com/ http://dcresource.pricegrabber.com/index.php/ut=cf12c78c18a901e2/ -- Jerry Feldman Enterprise Systems Group Hewlett-Packard Company 200 Forest Street MRO1-3/F1 Marlboro, Ma. 01752 508-467-4315 http://www.testdrive.compaq.com/linux/
