Instead of /cdexos/ on Win ... what on SUSE10?
I use http://sourceforge.net/projects/cdexos/ for ripping CDs to .wav and Ogg formats. It's fast, flexible .. really nice. What should I use now that I am (trying to) fully switch my home/rec pc to SUSE 10? Peter

Most likely Audacity, if CDex doesn't play nice. - James W.

well since CDex is windows only .... I'll try Audacity then. Is this a personal reccomendation, or just a package you know of? Thnx James ... Peter

I've used it a bit. You can export as wav, mp3, or ogg, and according to the web site you supplied, CDex may very well merge with Audacity. It won't be the same as CDex of course, but it will get the job done. Check out KAudioCreator, as Joe Morris suggested as well. I am sure that one or both will suit you well. There is no need to settle until you have checked out your options. - James W.

Or use cdparanoia to create the wavs, then use oggenc to encode to the open, patent-free ogg format. The command I like to use: specifying quality rather than bitrate (to a very high quality mode) oggenc infile.wav -q 9 out.ogg This choice will not give you the database lookup of your track titles that I saw mentioned at least once in this thread. I think it was in Kaudiocreator. I did not see anyone state whether Kaudiocreator does tagging. You can tag your oggs with vorbiscomment. Agreed. I also used to use CDex, and KAudioCreator is the same sort of app, set the options once, and from then on just click the button to get your CDs to ripped to Ogg. -- Raoul Snyman Saturn Laboratories Cell: 082 550 3754 Mail: raoul.snyman@saturnlaboratories.co.za Web: www.saturnlaboratories.co.za Blog: blog.saturnlaboratories.co.za Truth about Microsoft: http://msversus.org/ Linux User #333298

KAudioCreator seems to do the trick quite nicely, thank you. And Kai, thnx for the 'tutorial/tour' of it. Cool. It does not appear that that Audacity comes with SUSE -- and I have not yet looked to see whether there is an RPM for it. Generally, until I get more familiar with it, I want to stick to things that come with, to the extent that I can, anyway. I noticed that "Grip" comes with the distro, too .. but it was not installed. Anyone used it? P
