(Sitting down at my roommate's computer...) Suddenly I can't connect to the internet with either kppp or kinternet. I get the following error message just when "Logging on to Network" has been hanging for awhile, saying that it couldn't open the following log files: /var/log/syslog /var/log/syslog.ppp /var/log/messages I checked the appropriate directory and the first two do not exist. Does anyone know what happened and what I can do to fix it (I've tried re- configuring the modem in YAST2 all the way down to re-setting up the connection in the kppp dialogues, no luck.) I'm using 7.3 BTW. I don't want to fresh install again. I've got music files and pictures that I obviously can't upload to my ISP account now to backup. But if there's no choice I guess I'll have to. Thanks to all for any help. Bryce

Stupid question, do you have the smpppd running? 7.3 forgets to set it up by default and you need to fix this yourself. Visit sdb for details ... Cheers ... Well, I went ahead and fresh installed so I'm back up again. I sure wish I knew for sure what happened. I'll remember about checking smpppd next time, if there is one... Thanks for responding. -- Bryce Hardy (Santa Rosa, CA) brycehdy@sonic.net --->>>"Arbeit Macht Nicht So Frei!"<<<---
