[opensuse] Strange problem with sound
Running openSUSE tumbleweed v.20160916 KDE Plasma 5 Oracle VirtualBox v.5.1.6 Sound does not work at all in the host system but does work in the Windows7 VM. I find that quite strange. Even using YaST sound control will not play a test sound. Very strange. -- Ken Schneider SuSe since Version 5.2, June 1998 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Yes, very odd indeed. There was a regression in 5.1.4 where sound didn't work in the guest. But 5.1.6 was supposed to have fixed this. (It did fix it for me). Sounds like the problem must be something with the input volume level. -- Sent from my Android phone with K-9 Mail. And it did. What I'm saying is sound does not work in TW but does work in VirtualBox.

Sound levels are all at lease at 50%. -- Ken linux since 1994 S.u.S.E./openSUSE since 1996 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

1. Make sure the card is the primary sound card ( YaST ) 2. Check the sound priorities in KDE's systemsettings -- Gertjan Lettink, a.k.a. It is
2. Check the sound priorities in KDE's systemsettings
This was the culprit or at least the test runs now. -- Ken linux since 1994 S.u.S.E./openSUSE since 1996 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Just where are you seeing this priority setting? -- After all is said and done, more is said than done. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

All I see about priority there has to do with ripping CDs. (And its not present on all versions of KDE either. On KDE 5.26.0 I see nothing that references priority). Could you please type out a map to that feature? Start systemsettings, there's a search field on the top right. Search for "Audio" and you should see it. -- Gertjan Lettink, a.k.a. Not useful. Again, nothing mentioned on any audio tab dealing with priority other than encoding CD audio to mp3 (ripping). -- After all is said and done, more is said than done. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

So you're missing this entire module? http://paste.opensuse.org/35312524 Menu -> System Settings -> Multimedia -> Audio and Video Perhaps if that's the case you're missing some Phonon packages or dependencies. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Configure Desktop (System Setting)-->Multimedia-->Audio and Video (left hand side selection) Under device Preferences there are selections for different Audio Playback priority settings. -- Ken linux since 1994 S.u.S.E./openSUSE since 1996 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Ah, I see. Its a wording problem. I was looking for Priorities title. Those aren't priorities those are preferences. Priorities implies some setting that says use this unless its not available, then use something else, which of course is not how this panel works. -- After all is said and done, more is said than done. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
