That's easy. hit CTRL-ALT-Backspace -- JVOLLMER1@MN.RR.COM TEXT REFS DOUBLEPLUSUNGOOD SELFTHINK VERGING CRIMETHINK STOP IGNORE FULLWISE END
Actually, you really only want to use CTL+ALT+BACKSPC to kill the server
when it's misbehaving or frozen. Not that it will cause damage, but kde
won't be able to save your settings such as window positions and such. If
you are in runlevel 5, you probably have xdm respawning you into X over and
over. Better to log out (which closes kde gracefully), switch to a console
with ctl+alt+(F1-F6) then either type "telinit 3" or "/etc/init.d/xdm stop"
(as root). This will completely unload X (gracefully as well). I believe
one of the older 7.x's had run level 3 running X too though I'm not sure
about that. If so, substitute runlevel 2 for 3 above "telinit 2".
