I tend to use the same auto-sig for all of the 20+ lists of which I am a member and I forget as I go from list to list which censors more severely than another. How do I get KMail or some other Linux E-mail app to pop up a selection of sigs each time -- that will remind me to be more selective. A couple of hypersensitive folks lacked the maturity to ignore sig content with which they disagreed and prompted the listmom (elsewhere) to send the list a censorship warning that nothing off-topic was permitted -- even in sigs! Thanks! doc -- "Nothing offensive in my sig no more, yea nothing in my sig at all. Silence born of fear, freedom sheds a tear, and life is darkened all around."

Well, "if I've done this correctly", this very e-mail will have a special .sig all it's own, and I'm using kmail. Here's what to do: 1) under settings/configure k-mail [identities tab] you will see a "NEW" button -- press that -- select "copy from existing" on the pop-up box that appears 2) define a name (here I chose "Tom (SuSE 8.1 user)") 3) check the "enable signature" box 4) type in a .sig for this "identity" [or I suppose you could use one of the other options, such as "output from command" which would give a fortune-cookie type sig, just be sure the group of potential .sigs is "suitable" for the list you are about to be using...] that sets up an "identity" which you can use for a particular list if [I presume] you are sorting/filtering list-based messages to their own folder. In my case, I have a top-level folder called "discussion groups", and under that a folder called "SuSE" -- on the SuSE folder's "property" page, I've checked "this folder is a mailing list" [but that's not important for this "feature" -- that simply lets you set a default "to:" entry when you post new messages -- quite handy I've found :) ] Near the bottom of the property page is a drop-down for "sender identity" -- set this to the new "identity" you created above if that works, you should see a .sig I've set exclusively for this list Tom

key word here appears to be "IF" :) -- seems I'm a creature of habit... I see in *this* reply that yes, indeed, the .sig I created is there what I *almost* did now [and what I probably did then] was press ctrl-shift-end followed by delete -- basically, trashing all the excess gobbldeygook that either no longer pertains to the message, or includes typos and half-thoughts I hadn't already erased/deleted. -- this is a custom .sig generated exclusively for the SuSE discussion list [ref: "doc"'s quetion on multiple sigs]
