[opensuse] 10.3 and VMWare Server 1.0.4
Hi, after installing 10.3 (another story!) I tried to run VMWare server 1.0.3 and it didn't work. Downloaded the latest (1.0.4-56528) and installed and all seemed to be working OK. After running for a while, the virtual disk corrupted (XP - no snapshot :-( ). Have since reinstalled, and it seems very unstable - breaks KDE (no mouse/keyboard input) and corrupts the virtual disk. Anybody else experienced this, and if so, any ideas? Thanks. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Not that this helps on VMware, but opensuse has Virtualbox, that I installed Windows XP on. Works nice BTW. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Have you got USB on your Virtualbox installed on 10.3? I had USB on 10.2 but since I've upgraded I have no USB. Did you have to do some "magic" if so please share. Thanks Eddie -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

OK, might give VirtualBox a go, sounds like an option. But, just as a note, in VMWare, I had USB support in 10.2, but can't seem to get that going in 10.3 either..... The version of VirtualBox provided by openSUSE 10.3 is VistualBox OSE (Open Source Edition), without support for USB. This is implemented only by the closed-source, commercial version of VirtualBox. Just in case anyone is interested. I followed the instructions on the openSUSE website and got the USB going in minutes. http://en.opensuse.org/Virtualbox Thanks to all those who sent replies. You must have hardware virtualization "vmx" in your processor? -- David C. Rankin, J.D., P.E. Not for VMware. VMware provides a fully emulated hardware environment in which to install non-modified guest operating systems. There are no modifications required to VMware, Windows XP, or openSUSE 10.3 [1] in order to have Windows XP as a guest OS. You're possibly confusing the hardware virtualisation flags with Xen and hardware assisted virtualisation for non-modified operating systems... No, works greatly here. I am currently making a stripped down XP CDrom with nlite from step to step. VMware server is continously loading and installing any iso that I produce for testing, where any "XP virtual harddisk" is indefinitley often reformatted and stressed. Runs very stable all day long for two days and nights. Well, I guess the only difference (which I forgot to mention before :-( ) is that I am running 10.3 64bit..... John. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
One day down of running vmware server on 32 bit after a week of 64 bit and the 32 bit is a winner so far, just as an easy example the shutdown of the windows would take almost twice as long on the 64bit as it does on 32bit and the exit music plays in one nice stream instead of 30 seconds of little blurbs of music. I think if you want to run vmware the 32bit OS might be a better idea. On Wed, 2007-10-31 at 07:45 +1000, John Bennett wrote:
