What happening that I'm trying to follow the INSTALL file for instructions on howto get the wireless package installed, but "make" or "make install" will not work as there is no make file in the /usr/local/wireless_tools.24/ I'm getting confused then following the rest of the INSTALL on howto do this manually. But I've cp the *8 files into the man dir. Placed the wireless.14.h into /usr/include/ Now stuck at what todo next? I'm using SUSE 8.0 virgin install... The Wireless adapter is cardctrl ident Socket 0: product info: "NETGEAR M401 Wireless PC", "Card", "Version 01.00, "" manfid: 0x156, 0x0002 function: 6 (network) Dre -----Original Message----- On Friday 19 July 2002 14.51, arawak wrote:

Works for me. Could you be a little more specific about the errors you're getting? //Anders

1) You shouldn't put the source directory in /usr/local, it's better to work as a user and put everything in your home directory and only go to root when it's time to install. When I work, I do everything in $HOME/src/ 2) Yes there is a Makefile. ~/src> tar xzf wireless_tools.24.tar.gz ~/src> ls -l wireless_tools.24/Makefile -rw-r----- 1 andjoh users 2665 Apr 24 19:58 wireless_tools.24/Makefile //Anders
Hi Anders, wireless_tools.24/Makefile is there. But the INSTALL file says to run make? but no make is found. How do I make sure that I have the correct compiler & dev env'? I'm pretty sure something is missing... but I don't know what... Dre

OK, then you should install the package make from the CDs/DVD

Tricky question, there is no simple answer. Each program you compile has its own set of requirements. For this it looks like it would be enough to install gcc, but you're going to have to go for trial-and-error If you get an error about some file missing, look for it with zgrep filename ARCHIVES.gz ARCHIVES.gz is a file in the root of CD1 or the DVD. This will tell you in which rpm the file is. After you've installed it, try again. With this particular program I don't think there are may requirements, so it shouldn't take long. //Anders
Are you saying that you don't have the "make" command available ? On (19/07/02 16:07), arawak wrote:
