Re: [SLE] Install hangs with SuSE 8.1 when using a Promise Ultra100 controller
Martin
Actually, the APCI things rings a bell with me although not with Linux. My
mobo (FIC VA-503+) had problems with APCI when I used to use the PC with
M$ W2K. I now remember that I had to remove my Promise card in order to
install W2K or it would hang during the hardware detection phase.
Apparently, if I were to run this mobo with an ATX PSU (it currently uses
an AT PSU) it would have worked OK but I never got round to trying this.
This could be a Linux version of the same problem. I will try installing
with APCI only switched off and see what happens. I will also try
reinstating the DMA settings after install but boot the kernel with acpi=off and see if that works too.
Perhaps Martin, your mobo is similarly disabled in the power management
department as mine is. You may have knocked the nail on the head. I hope
so. Well done if this is actually the cause of our problems in which case
I owe you a pint :-).
I'll let you know the results when I get round to trying it out. Got to
keep the Wife off my back for long enough before I get the chance though.
Cheers,
Sean Akers.
