 BTW how many video for linux devices are you running?  If more than one it could be possible that the tvcard has changed from /dev/video0 to /dev/video1 or some such.  If that's the case then you need to make a change in your udev rules files, that way the system will boot and that card will have the same /dev/video? each boot.

ls /dev/video*

If you have another video for linux device, like a webcam, it will also have an entry there.

I am quite sure that is not a problem with you TV software but of your graphics card driver. I guess you have a nvidia card. An if I am right with the latter you did not install the proprietary nvidia drivers so far? For a lot of TV tuner cards, yes- I do it all the time with my Hauppauge WinTV PVR 150. However, more options might be needed, dependent on the card- that is why in a subsequent post, I asked for the output of "hwinfo --tv".

For me, it doesn't, and I have a working /dev/video0 (a webcam, actually).

You need to pass more options for your webcam. Try something like: ,---- | mplayer tv:// -tv driver=v4l2:width=640:height=480:device=/dev/video0 -fps 30 `---- This works for my uvc based webcam.
