Determining dependencies for an RPM
How do people solve dependency problems when an RPM won't install? How do you figure out which RPMs need to be installed first to satisfy the failed dependencies? I'm trying to install java2 but I get this error: error: failed dependencies: libodbc.so is needed by java2-1.3.1-85 libodbcinst.so is needed by java2-1.3.1-85 libstdc++-libc6.1-1.so.2 is needed by java2-1.3.1-85 I know that the compat package will take care of the last problem. But what about the other two? Which RPMs own these files?

mount the dvd or CD 1 (or download ARCHIVES.gz from the ftp server) and do zgrep libodbc.so ARCHIVES.gz zgrep libodbcinst.so ARCHIVES.gz both queries are answered by unixODBC.rpm on my 7.3 DVD regards Anders

I have habit of doing rpm --requires ( shortcuts is -R) -qp uninstalled.rpm then just to be sure you may issue rpm -Uhv --test *to_be_installed.rpm* test parameter is a dry run if it fails there it wil fail also in actual install HTH -- Togan Muftuoglu "It's God.
