I'm running suse 8.2, kernel 2.4.20 with postfix 2.0.6. I'm sure that this question has already been asked but I have been unable to find it in the archives and I've been in google hell with it for several hours now without turning up a real answer other than this seems to be specific to the latest suse releases. I just want to get port 25 to accept outside connections. I have "inet_interfaces" set to "all" in main.cf, which is about the only fix I've found any mention of but it isn't fixing the problem. netstat shows the smtp service listening on 172.0.0.1:25. I've also set "POSTFIX_NULLCLIENT" to "no" in sysconfig\postfix. I know that port 25 is open on the firewall because I am able to connect to my isp's mail server on port 25 with no problems. From the mail server I am able to telnet to localhost 25 and send mail just fine. Any advice is appreciated.

Forgot about that one. I set that option to "yes". Still not able to connect. Thank you though. -- Allen Seelye Aseelye@blackfoot.net

I just had the bright idea to shut the firewall off and try to send something. The port is still only accessible by the localhost even with the firewall off. It's something in the postfix setup. Any massive revelations guys? -- Allen Seelye Aseelye@blackfoot.net
Edit /etc/sysconfig/mail And set SMTPD_LISTEN_REMOTE to yes. Are you connecting via a cable modem that is doing NAT or has a firewall set up? Does your ISP allow you to have port 25 open? -- del suse-linux-e

Not connected at all. This is local traffic only. -- Allen Seelye Aseelye@blackfoot.net

What do you have for 'mynetworks' in /etc/postfix/main.cf ?? You would need to have the ip addr of your ISP connection I think.

I decided to confirm my suspicions about this being exclusively a SuSE problem. I backed up main.cf and master.cf, removed the suse postfix rpm and then downloaded the postfix sources from postfix.org. I built and installed from sources, copied my existing main.cf and master.cf back into /etc/postfix and did a postfix reload. It's working beautifully now. But I still have no idea about exactly what was causing that behaviour. -- Allen Seelye Aseelye@blackfoot.net
