recognizing megaraid under Suse 7.1
Folks, I managed to track down a MegaRAID driver (object file) and I also found one as part of the standard 7.1 Suse release. What I haven't quite figured out is how to tell the kernel about it. It does not seem to detect the megaraid card and load the drivers automatically. I tried getting it to load with insmod and modprobe but I got errors indicating maybe I need to specify additional parameters. I have no idea what to give for addresses and such. I tried modifying the modules.conf file and enable scsi-adaptor, since the megaraid appears as scsi, but that didn't work. I also tried to enable ide-scsi and still no success. Any idea how to approach this? Thanks!! Babu __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Make a great connection at Yahoo! Personals. http://personals.yahoo.com
what megaraid card do you have? I have a 2.2 box who can boot it like a charm (the driver is compiled in kernel, not as a module) it's a HP server, so the adapter is called netraid, but it is a truly megaraid card... dragos babu walad wrote:

Hi Dragos,
I have the AMI (now LSI) MegaRAID PCI controller
(actually on motherboard) using the (CMD649) chipset.
Here is information:
lspci -vv produces (for the RAID portion only):
00:10.0 RAID bus controller: CMD Technology Inc
PCI0649 (rev 02)
Subsystem: American Megatrends Inc.: Unknown
device 0649
Control: I/O+ Mem+ BusMaster+ SpecCycle-
MemWINV- VGASnoop- ParErr- Stepping- SERR- FastB2B-
Status: Cap+ 66Mhz- UDF- FastB2B+ ParErr-
DEVSEL=medium >TAbort-

I have tried installing the Suse 7.1 issued megaraid.o driver, and another I got off the AMI/LSI people.
insmod megaraid produces:
/tmpdir/megaraid.o: init_module: Cannot allocate memory Hint: insmod errors can be caused by incorrect module parameters, including invalid IO or IRQ parameters
Perhaps you should have passed some parameters with insmod? A text file
should have come with the megaraid driver; does this provide any clues?

Hi Martin,
I suspect I may indeed need to do parameter passing
but I do not see any notes that say what needs to
be done. The stock megaraid driver and source is
part of 7.1 distribution. Where would notes be?
Last time I contacted Suse support they informed me
that megaraid was unsupported...
