My desktop box is running openSUSE 10.0. I'd like to try running Skype, but before I run out and buy a headset I'm wondering if anyone has sucessfully set up on Skype on their SuSE/openSUSE box? TIA, Robert

I use it under SUSE 9.3. My box is a Compaq M2215LA notebook. I have seen other cases where the sound card may be an issue, even when using the same OS. My wife's box run 9.3 but Skype says there is a problem with the sound device, even though sound works ok for everything else. So, you'll have to try. Around here, integrated headphones and microphone cost about US$5.00, so it's not that bad in case it does not work. Regards. -- Alfredo Cole-Tuckler

Check KDE's sound system, and set the idle time to 1 sec. That was the problem with my wife :) -- -- Svetoslav Milenov (Sunny)
Hi all, is anyone familar with nut (Network UPS Tools: http://www.networkupstools.org) in use with Mustek's UPS PowerMust 2000 USB and Online's P-Series (genericups upstype=14). In the README supplied with nut on SUSE 10.0 boxed version the Mustek is mentioned in the Hardware support table, and on the nut website (above) under Support - "UPS feature comparison chart" the Mustek PowerMust 400 Plus is listed only. The Online P-Series is mentioned on the UPS hardware compatibility list (stable). Has anyone used the Mustek PowerMust 2000, or the Online P-Series (YUNTO P1250)? Online claims it runs with Linux with its DataWatch UPSMAN Unix Solution software (http://www.online-ups.com/international/datawatch.asp). Any production usage experience and info welcome. :-) Al (Allemann) * EU * * LLLActive...@GMail.com * _________________________________ Gandhi's Seven Deadly Social Sins Politics without principle. I am currently running Skype the very latest version on my laptop
running SUSE 9.3 Linux box with 512MB. It works perfectly with no
problem whatsoever. My skype username is the same as my email
username. So if you care to get connected using skype on Linux, why
not join me now, and we can all make this a pleasant experience.
:Cheers

Thanks for the replies, and especially for the link to: http://www.opensuse.org/Skype I'll post a follow up later if I'm successful in getting this set up.

I have run SKYPE on XP and it runs well. If you have speakers far away from your mic, you don't need to have a headset. I run my sound thru a hi-fi system a few feet away from the computer. I have not tried SKYPE on Linux, but it is supposed to have been developed there, IIRC, so it should run fine. Sound is very good quality. I am using cable for my connection to the net. Once in a while, it drops out, but not very often. Then you need to reestablish the connection. I suspect that a reasonable (512 MB) size RAM will be needed. --doug -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Anti-Virus.
