The default DHCP client under SuSE 6.3 is efectively not the best one.
This is DHClient. The DHCP client that "seems" to give better results is
dhcpcd. The latest version is 1.3.18. You can find it at:
ftp://ftp.phystech.com/pub/
Lenz Grimmer had prepared a RPM for SuSE distros few months ago. You can
find it at:
ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/people/grimmer/misc/dhcpcd-1.3.18p3-0.i386.rpm
To use it, you have to 3 choices:
1) Start it manually;
2) Start it from /sbin/init.d/boot.local;
3) Edit /etc/rc.d/dhclient in order to invoke DHCPCD at the boot time
instead of the default dhclient
Good luck.
