It appears that the KDE 3.0.1 is now available for download/update using YOU!! Wow! Has anyone tried using YOU to update to 3.0.1 yet? Exciting!! I just tried it -- it seems to work fine. Be warned that I don't use KDE extensively, though. -tara On Wed, Jun 05, 2002 at 06:17:36PM -0700, Charles Griffin wrote:

Although I upgraded manually to these new packages, YOU is still broken. :-( -- Andy Stewart, Founder Worcester Linux Users' Group Worcester, MA USA http://www.wlug.org

Wow! It worked... sort of. Only problem seems to be that now my entire KOffice install is missing, and all of my menus seem to be significantly different than they were before YOU did its thing. Apparently there is a KOffice dependency issue which YOU couldn't resolve. I assume that my only recourse at this point is to install the updated version of KOffice using a more intelligent tool like APT. Although I have installed APT, I have not yet used it. Would APT solve this difficulty, or do I simply fail to understand the complexity of the issues? Any words of wisdom from the APT-gurus would be much appreciated! Thanks... // Russ

I finally had some time to try the 3.0.1 update using YOU and it worked perfectly! It appears that YaST2 and YOU are both ok and don't seem to suffer the problems that others have reported from manually updating to 3.0.1. I did not have any menu issues -- Russ, perhaps your menus got switched from the SuSE menu to the KDE default (or vice-versa?). Just a thought. Anyway, kudos to the SuSE team on putting the 3.0.1 update together via YOU. Boy am I glad I switched to SuSE!! Best regards, Charles __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? You can always run APT check/read only mode. So you can see what it does or advices you to do. No harm will be done to your system it all. I would say give it a try. # apt-get update and apt-get -S upgrade or apt-get -s upgrade (less upgrate information). The -S/-s runs apt in show only (do nothing) mode. -- Richard

I had already installed 3.0.1 from supplementary. YOU offered to update kdelibs (where it only actually updated arts) but did not place any "mark" against KDE_3.0.1. Yet selecting "Show Description" shows many components with the higher "build" number than I have installed. Select the "Apply" button changes to a 'G' rather than an 'X' which indicates that YOU does not think that I have the package installed.

I've noticed that YOU misidentifies a number of packages as 'not installed'. I always have to check manually. - -- Good day to avoid cops. That's because YaST2 keeps track of which patches are applied in a separate file apart from RPM. If you look in this directory, /var/lib/YaST/patches/i386/update/8.0/patches you can see what YOU thinks it has patched. If it's not there, it thinks it has a patch to apply. Yet, it appears to look at the RPM database to get actual installed versions. Best Regards, Keith -- LPIC-2, MCSE, N+ Got spam? Get spastic http://spastic.sourceforge.net

No, what I'm saying is, that updates it does not X, may indeed be packages that ARE installed... I always check, and it's often wrong. Ah, did you install any packages manually, using rpm at the command line? I know for sure that YaST2 does not track any packages installed that did not come on the SuSE CDs. Best Regards, Keith -- LPIC-2, MCSE, N+ Got spam? Get spastic http://spastic.sourceforge.net

No dude. These are packages from the CD. Don't remember any offhand, but you do need to cross-check. - -- "There is hopeful symbolism in the fact that flags do not wave in a vacuum." -- Arthur C. Am trying to make a copy of my SuSE 8.0 CD's within SuSE using KOnCD ... but keep getting an error that cdread fails to load. I am using a single device, a CyberDrive CD-RW 32x-12x-48x. It all works fine in Windows 98se using the included Nero5 app. I have just run autoupdate twice, it picked up the KDE 3.01 and others. I ran it the second time in case there might be an update that doesn't get called until a prior update is in place. Suggestions, please? Thanks! doc
