Can anybody tell me where to find a Network Watcher applet in KDE? I don't exactly remember which distro had something like that ..but yeah..WindowMaker has it.. What I mean by Network watcher is an applet that will keep track of the Upload and Download thats currently going on... It should be like an indicator which shows these things... Any ideas on how to get this thing on KDE? Also, is there an applet that shows if the Network Card is connected or disconnected..like the one we get in Windows? Would be much helpful..Thanks. :) -- http://mckagan.googlepages.com

Many of us use the program "gkrellm" to do that sort of thing, if I understand you correctly. There is another program in KDE that works well, but I'm sorry, I just don't remember it's name right now. bye

I installed Knemo via YaST. I tried to launch it via Konsole..but still no luck..its not showing up. Moreover, I even don't have it in my SuSe Menu. I have the Packman repository in my YaST installation Sources...so it avoided me the hassle to install it manually.. Regarding gkrellm..yes I have see a lotta people here using it..but its hell of a tool..I just needed the Network Applet out of the whole gkrellm. I tried to search that on YaST too..but it did not show up. -- http://mckagan.googlepages.com

Try KDE Control Center/Internet & Network/Network Monitor. That's where you configure and activate Knemo. -- Al

I installed Knemo via YaST. Good.
I tried to launch it via Konsole..but still no luck..its not showing up. Moreover, I even don't have it in my SuSe Menu. Go to Geeko, Personal Settings, KDE Components, Service Manager, Network Status Daemon, and click on start. You will need to configure it, first by telling it which interfaces to look for, i.e. eth0, wlan0, eth1, etc. Then, click OK and it will show up in the system tray. Then, right click on it and choose configure. Now, you can add any pertinent facts you would like to popup via a tooltip. Or, go Back in Service Manager, then Internet and Network, Network Monitor, and configure it

Another option for monitoring network stats (if you're using a WindowManager) is SuperKaramba. I use the Cynapsys plugin... does a decent job of indicating up and downstream traffic as a value (number of MB and as a graph with a regular refresh). There's dozens of other plugins for SuperKaramba that do the same thing. For the network card status thing... as already mentioned, use the Network Status applet in the taskbar. Does all the nice network management you expect it to... C .
