I'm running 7.3 on a Thinkpad, and I want to try Evolution and gnome-pilot. Evolution comes with 7.3, but there is a more recent version on the SuSE Gnome update site. The newer version says it needs some more recent libraries as well - libgal.so.19 & libgtkhtml.so.20. First question - is there a reliable general way to find out where to get a particular library version? So, after rooting around in the Gnome packages offered, I identified two that have the later libraries - gal.rpm & gtkhtml.rpm. Upon trying to install gal.rpm, I'm informed by kpackage that several installed packages need libgal.so.9 - an earlier version. Second question(s) - are libraries supposed to be compatible, so that a later version can successfully replace an earlier one? Can I go ahead and install this later one and ignore the warning and expect things to work? Third question - if not, what IS the idea here? How do I deal with multiple library versions? I'm hoping this isn't an issue - I've not seen much discussion about such, and I'd expect it to be a nightmare if it is. Thanks in advance, Bret
