Hi all, i remember there was a time when clicking ctrl-alt-F8 i could get a second kdm, i.e. a second grafical login, i.e. a second X-session i think. I have a R51 thinkpad and suse 9.2, and if i click alt-ctrl-f8 i just get a black screen. ctrl-alt-f[1-6] works well, and return a new init3-like console login. ctrl-alt-f7 is able to make me return to my init5-like session. Maybe this is the default suse behaivour? Can i change it? tia L.Cerini
use : KDE Start Menu-> Start New Session -or- go to text (user) mode and do: startx --:1 then do ctrl+alt+F8 - and you have your second session. I'm not sure how to configure that at boot time.
Be careful though - if you are using ATI prop. driver, it will kill the system when you close one of the sessions. They have this bug for many years. -- -- Svetoslav Milenov (Sunny) Even the most advanced equipment in the hands of the ignorant is just a pile of scrap.

i'm using an ATI proprietary driver and haven't had this problem. i continually use 2 X sessions and often close the second one down without it affecting my first session. i'm currently using this driver from ATI: ati-driver-installer-8.29.6.run with a Radeon Xpress 200G on-board graphics card. -- ----- stephan@s11n.net http://s11n.net "...pleasure is a grace and is not obedient to the commands of the will." -- Alan W. Thanks for the pointer. I do not see this issue in the "Known problems" section in this release, but it was in the previous one, so it looks like they solved it. I'll try this.
