Hello SuSE people. Still trying out 11.1 with KDE4.2.1. KDE is looking better with every upgrade. However, 11.1 is not seeing any of my USB devces. (scanner. plug in portable hard drive, card reader etc) Don't get that little pop-up about a device being seen. Haven't done a lot of intensive investigation yet and thought the SuSE people could provide a simple answer. 11.1 is also not seeing my CDRW or my DVDRW devices. I can see it in sysinfo but I can't open it. Just thought I would ask before I go into my trouble- shooting mode, (again) Bob S BTW, what is with the My Computer (sysinfo) thing that keeps jumping to the top while you are trying to read what is there. Very annoying. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Hi rambo, I can't help with your question about xen, but can I give a little advice? 1. You've hijacked someone else's thread. This means you've changed the subject in the middle of the conversation. In fact, Bob S hadn't had a reply to his question before you butted in. This is considered rude on usenet. But it's also to your disadvantage, as people who know about xen may not bother to look at a thread entitled "11.1 not seeing USB devices". You need to start a new thread. 2. It's accepted practice here to post your contribution to a thread *below* earlier messages (no top-posting), snipping out irrelevant material if necessary. The traditional advice was to 'lurk' in a list for a little while to get the feel of its customs and practices, before posting, but we live in a more impatient age now. :(

It's important to distinguish updates (usually bug or security fixes) from upgrades. The latter represent the evolution of the software itself to a newer version. The former are usually handled via the Online Update module in YaST's Software section, though updates can be seen in the Software Management module, too. In this case I think (but am not sure) the fix Carlos is suggesting for your problem comes in the update titled "hal: collective bugfix update," which should be visible in Online Update's Patches list. If you haven't installed it and it's applicable to your installation (and I think it is), then it will show up in the initial view when you run Online Update. -==--==--==--==--==--==--==--==--==--==--==--==--==--==--==--==- hal - hal: collective bugfix update bnc#458414: fix ACL handling for drm devices bnc#458307: fix serial.port handling for USB serial devices bnc#450489: add new config option to disable NVIDIA default quirks, fixed suspend quirk for a HP 8510 with ATI graphics bnc#459342: add Nokia N810 to USB music players bnc#408252: fix ACL handling/rules for removable block devices bnc#465497: list more Sierra Wireless devices as modem bnc#462536: add a Quanta 3G modem bnc#462534: add an Option modem bnc#462639: add ACL rule for generic SCSI scanner and add a generic rule to identify SCSI scanner fixed installation/handling of HAL udev rule file several new keymapping, suspend quirks, modem and USB music player identification fixed BuildRequires References: 408252 (bugzilla) : bug number 408252 458414 (bugzilla) : bug number 458414 458307 (bugzilla) : bug number 458307 450489 (bugzilla) : bug number 450489 459342 (bugzilla) : bug number 459342 465497 (bugzilla) : bug number 465497 462536 (bugzilla) : bug number 462536 462534 (bugzilla) : bug number 462534 462639 (bugzilla) : bug number 462639 -==--==--==--==--==--==--==--==--==--==--==--==--==--==--==--==- Randall Schulz -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

All available mandatory updates, and most or all of the recomended ones. I said nothing about upgrades. - -- Cheers, Carlos E.
