The connection was refused when attempting to connect to localhost
Does anyone have any idea why I should get the above message in Mozilla 0.9.8 when trying to access the local instance of Apache? It works OK if I use the PC's IP address, and both IP address and localhost work OK in Konqueror. Thanks Kevin

Yes, this works fine in both Konqueror and Mozilla, but I would still like to know why Mozilla doesn't honour localhost - is it something in the configuration of the browser? Thanks Kevin

Yes, this is what is perplexing. What is Moz not seeing that Konq can?
FWIW, I have Mozilla going and http://localhost works fine. Maybe it has something to do with KDE. -- use Perl; #powerful programmable prestidigitation

Maybe Moz doesn't like IPv6? Remove localhost from this line in /etc/hosts ::1 ipv6-localhost ipv6-loopback I think that can help. /Stefan

Brilliant, Stefan! Where should I go to read up on this sort of thing (ie how did you find out about it?)? I can now go to bed happy that a niggling, though non-essential, query has been resolved. You have done your good deed for the day - thanks! Kevin

Actually I think one of these lists answered the same question for a Netscape 4.X user about a year ago, so I can not take all the credit for this one ;-). It was a wild guess it would also work for Mozilla... /Stefan

When using a laptop away from a network I can only connect to localhost if I put a net card in the slot -- no idea why -- but just might be elevant Cheers Francesco
